In an Instagram post, the author and producer of the series, Ford Riley, mentioned that Scar’s name wasn’t originally derived from his injury as some may think, but instead, it was a reference to his forefather Askari, with his brothers Mufasa shortening it to “Scar.” Contrary to popular belief from the Disney movie “The Lion King,” Scar obtained his scar not from battling a white lion, but rather from a snake bite.

Among “The Lion Guard” fans, it is widely believed that certain elements are canon. One such belief is that the character “Taka,” due to its Swahili meaning, aligns more closely with Scar’s original name. The term “Taka” translates to “waste” in English, which could symbolize Scar’s squandered potential as he transforms into a villain and betrays Mufasa.

Mufasa: The Lion King confirms Scar’s real name

In 2024, the movie titled “Mufasa: The Lion King” will reintroduce the character named Taka. This film delves into the lives of Mufasa and Scar during their youth, offering insights on how Scar sustained his signature injury and providing a deeper look into his sinister past. Notably, this narrative aligns with the book “A Tale of Two Brothers,” which reveals that Scar’s original name is actually Taka.

Tragedy strikes when Mufasa kills Kiros’s son, leading Kiros to seek revenge. However, Taka reconsiders his actions during the ensuing conflict, and in an attempt to intervene, Kiros wounds Taka’s face, resulting in the scar that becomes synonymous with him. Subsequently, Mufasa refuses to address Taka by name, leading him to adopt the moniker Scar instead.

The film appears to confirm that Scar’s actual name is Taka, similar to what was stated in the book. During the announcements for “Mufasa: The Lion King,” the character was identified as Taka instead of Scar, indicating before its release that they would stick with using Taka as his original name.
