The Mehta Boys: Boman Irani admits Rajkumar Hirani watched the film THIS many times, reveals plans about sequel

In his new role as director, Boman Irani’s film “The Mehta Boys” has been well-received by audiences. To maximize its reach, he’s been actively marketing the movie. An intriguing piece of information he shared was that renowned director Rajkumar Hirani enjoyed the film so much, he watched it three times! Yet, when questioned about a possible sequel, Boman revealed that one isn’t likely at this point in time.

During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Boman Irani shared that renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani watched his directorial debut, The Mehta Boys, not just once, but three times. According to Boman, Hirani found the movie quite delightful as he expressed, “He enjoyed it three times over!

Boman mentioned that their conversations mainly revolved around the emotional intensity of the film, rather than its technical aspects. He noted that for Rajkumar Hirani, the strongest focus should be on the human connections portrayed in the film, as when a movie strikes an emotional chord, any cinematic imperfections become insignificant. Boman added that he was content because it was the film’s sincere essence that truly shone through.

Boman Irani hinted at the possibility of a The Mehta Boys sequel but seemed doubtful, saying “I don’t think so.” He shared that since the initial script, the airport represented ‘God’s waiting room’, symbolizing the final leg of life’s journey. The main character’s flight to America is a metaphor for his permanent departure.

In another words, he emphasized that there’s a hint of this throughout the story when the character’s sister advises, “Go talk to him. You might not get another chance.” Even though he felt angry over a past offense, the character decides to reconcile. The main theme of the movie, as explained by Irani, is straightforward yet potent: don’t dwell on regrets.

Under Boman Irani’s direction, The Mehta Boys boasts an impressive ensemble including Irani himself, Avinash Tiwary, Shreya Chaudhry, and Puja Sarup. This film explores the complex bond between a father and son, who, despite their disagreements, are compelled to spend 48 hours together. This time brings about introspection, confrontation, and surprising instances of emotional connection.
