As a seasoned observer of fashion and culture, I find myself thoroughly captivated by the upcoming Met Gala of 2025. The star-studded lineup of co-chairs, including Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Anna Wintour, and a debutante Lebron James, promises an event that will undoubtedly be etched in the annals of fashion history.
In approximately seven months from now, on the first Monday in May, the much-awaited Met Gala is getting closer. As we eagerly look forward to the most fashionable day of the year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has unveiled details about this year’s exhibition and theme, along with its impressive lineup of co-chairs. This group includes Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Anna Wintour, and an honorary first-time attendee, Lebron James.
The Costume Institute is planning an exhibition titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” This exhibit will showcase clothing, artwork, and photographs that, according to Vogue, delve into the distinctive fashion sense of African American men within the context of dandyism. The display will trace these stylistic evolutions from the 18th century right up to the present.
2025’s Met Gala will be Domingo’s second time attending, Pharrell’s sixth (having served as co-chair twice, previously in 2017 for “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between”), and another Met event for frequent guests Rocky and Hamilton. Anna Wintour has been chairing the Met Gala since 1995.
From May 6th to October 26th, 2025, the exhibition titled “Superb Tailoring: Elegance in Black” will be open for viewing. Details about the Gala’s dress code are expected to be revealed in early 2025.
