At last, Neon has unveiled the highly anticipated red-band trailer for the horror movie “The Monkey“, directed by Osgood Perkins of Longlegs fame, and produced by James Wan. True to their word in the studio notes received from the MPA, this new trailer is chock full of gore, violence, and pure insanity – and yes, it involves a lethal bowling ball incident.
Previously scheduled to debut a week ago, now available is the long-awaited red-band trailer for “The Monkey“. Although it’s late (and perhaps a bit gorier), its arrival couldn’t be more timely. In recent interviews, Perkins has highlighted that “The Monkey” departs from his past works as it leans towards comedy, labeling it as a “bleakly surreal horror-comedy with a touch of warmth and redemption, featuring a leading man who’s every girl’s crush.” The trailer certainly suggests a dark, absurd, and brutal sense of humor. As for the heartwarming aspect? That remains to be seen.
The story revolves around a pair of identical twins who stumble upon an antique wind-up monkey toy that has a penchant for gruesome murders in a manner reminiscent of Jigsaw’s ineptitude. Upon realizing the item is cursed, they part ways. Two and a half decades later, the monkey resurfaces, prompting them to reunite. Theo James, known for his roles in “The White Lotus” Season 2, portrays both brothers as adults, alongside Tatiana Maslany from “She-Hulk”, Elijah Wood, and Sarah Levy from “Schitt’s Creek”.
