The Only Recap You Need Before The Fantastic Four: First Steps

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to announce that this summer, Marvel’s extraordinary family, the Fantastic Four, are making their grand entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”! To fully immerse yourself in the excitement, don’t miss our comprehensive recap video, available above.

In many aspects, this film, marking the beginning of Phase 6 in the MCU, symbolizes a new chapter for the franchise following a rocky phase.

It appears that 2025 hasn’t been particularly favorable for Marvel movies. The film “Captain America: Brave New World” didn’t perform well financially, earning a total of $414 million globally, and it received negative criticism as well, with a score of only 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the second-worst Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. The Phase 5 finale “Thunderbolts,” where Yelena Belova (played by Florence Pugh) led the formation of the New Avengers, was generally well-received critically but struggled at the box office, managing to earn only $382 million worldwide. This has left industry experts like Variety questioning Marvel’s next move.

The film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is set in an almost-60s era, but with a twist – it’s a blend of the past and future. As confirmed by Kevin Feige, this isn’t just a historical reenactment. Despite the high anticipation for the movie, its financial success might be questionable, given the pattern seen in previous “Fantastic Four” films: They tend to underperform at the box office, despite being well-liked among comic book enthusiasts.

The Fantastic Four is already an established team in First Steps

In contrast to the 2005 and 2015 versions of “Fantastic Four”, titled team members have already come together in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”. The narrative commences with Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Sue’s charming brother Johnny (Joseph Quinn), and the blue-eyed Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) already established as a crimefighting unit. Sue and Reed are married, and the movie starts with Sue being pregnant with Franklin Richards. Much like Marvel Cinematic Universe’s approach in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, the film bypasses the traditional origin story, assuming that audiences are familiar with it by now.
