The Only Recap You Need Before Wednesday Season 2

After a long wait of nearly three years, we’re finally approaching Season 2 of “Wednesday,” a show known for its eerie, peculiar, enigmatic, and chilling atmosphere. To help you catch up before diving into this new installment, let me remind you of the events from last season right here at Looper. For your convenience, we’ve prepared a refresher video (available above) to ensure you don’t miss any crucial details as Wednesday Addams (played by Jenna Ortega) embarks on her next adventure.

On its debut, “Wednesday” broke Netflix viewing records, as countless viewers were drawn to watch the character adapt to Nevermore Academy despite her consistently gloomy demeanor. As she develops friendships and becomes ensnared in a love triangle, it falls upon her to refine her emerging psychic talents and unravel the mystery behind a series of gruesome murders.

Critics generally praised the first season, particularly appreciating its somber, ominous ambiance and Jenna Ortega’s stellar portrayal as Wednesday. Cristina Escobar from RogerEbert.com remarked that “Ortega shines in her role, playing off a dry wit that becomes even more amusing due to her character’s apparent disregard for anything resembling laughter.” Although reviews for “Wednesday” Season 2 haven’t been released yet, there are strong indications that it will surpass the first season.

Don’t expect a love triangle for Wednesday in Season 2

As a devoted fan, I’ve got to say that while most critics praised “Wednesday” Season 1, there were some who felt it veered too much into typical teen melodrama tropes. One of these tropes was the love triangle involving Wednesday Addams, which didn’t quite resonate with her character. Actress Jenna Ortega wasn’t fond of this angle either, confessing to Variety that they were dropping any romantic interest for Wednesday in Season 2, making it even better! Ortega also hinted that the second season would delve deeper into its horror roots, and since Tim Burton is directing four out of the eight new episodes, we can expect some truly captivating visuals.

In the trailer for Season 2 of “Wednesday,” our protagonist finds herself entangled in another enigma, with a fresh academic year bringing a fresh danger. She has a premonition that her roommate Enid (Emma Myers) will meet an untimely end. For this new adventure, Wednesday will be accompanied by several familiar figures, such as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán portraying Morticia and Gomez Addams respectively. However, there are also some new characters set to appear, including Steve Buscemi taking on the role of the principal at Nevermore and Lady Gaga playing Rosaline Rotwood, a teacher at Wednesday’s school.

In case you need a reminder for Looper’s “Wednesday” Season 2, this video should serve you well multiple times. The new season is set to debut in two parts: The initial four episodes will premiere on August 6, with the remaining four episodes scheduled for release on September 3.
