1) Those are peacocks; you need to let them soar freely! Mark Wahlberg has a knack for moving between comedy and action films. However, when he blends them together, it results in pure gold. This is exactly what transpired in 2010 when Wahlberg teamed up with comedy veteran Will Ferrell in Adam McKay’s movie titled The Other Guys. This film stands out among Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell’s body of work, and since it will soon be available for free streaming on a new platform, Gator is expanding his business.
Beginning on June 1st, “The Other Guys” will make its way to Tubi, the ad-supported streaming service. In this action-comedy tribute to buddy cop films, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play Detectives Allen Gamble and Terry Holtz under the direction of director McKay. Normally known for their incompetence, these New York Police Department detectives are given a chance to investigate a corrupt businessman. This forces them to step up their game and become the police officers they’ve always aspired to be. The movie seamlessly combines impressive action sequences with the quirky, unpredictable, and physical humor that Ferrell and McKay have become famous for in projects like “Step Brothers” and “Anchorman”.
In addition to Ferrell and Wahlberg, the comedy film The Other Guys boasts an impressive ensemble of supporting actors. The likes of Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Steve Coogan, Ray Stevenson, Bobby Cannavale, Rob Riggle, Damon Wayans Jr., Rosie Perez, and Ben Schwartz all join in on the laughter as they watch Terry and Allen’s shenanigans unfold. When it hit theaters in 2010, The Other Guys was generally well-received by critics, earning a 79% approval rating. However, audiences seemed less enthused, giving it a score of 60%.
Will ‘The Other Guys 2’ Ever Happen?
The Other Guys resides in an odd cinematic limbo, being a hit yet not quite enough of one to spark immediate sequel production by Hollywood. During its time in theaters, it earned $170 million globally, which is satisfactory but not particularly memorable success.
The demand for a follow-up has grown significantly during the era of streaming platforms. The hilarious film The Other Guys, initially released years ago, has developed a cult following on these services. This renewed interest has triggered a strong push for a sequel over the past two years, with snippets from the movie being shared extensively on social media. Moreover, this desire for a continuation is fueled by the fact that several of Ferrell’s iconic comedies have recently spawned sequels. For instance, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, where Ferrell collaborated with Adam McKay once more, was a resounding success and exceeded all expectations. Similarly, Ferrell also featured in the comedy Zoolander, which saw a sequel in 2016. However, while Zoolander 2 was met with criticism from both audiences and critics, it partially contributed to the decline of legacy sequels based on beloved comedies.
Regardless of whether there’s another installment, The Other Guys will undoubtedly continue to be remembered as a hilarious movie filled with memorable quotes. Starting June 1st, you can stream it on Tubi.
