The Real Reason Donald Trump Was Fired From The Apprentice

As a gamer with a keen interest in pop culture and politics, I can’t help but reflect on the fascinating saga of “The Apprentice.” The show was once a powerhouse, captivating audiences worldwide with its unique blend of business strategy and celebrity antics. However, like many good things in life, it was not immune to the whims of fate or the unpredictability of human nature.

Previously engulfed in controversy, Donald Trump, who was once a president, faced termination by NBC following Season 14 of “The Celebrity Apprentice.” The cause? Offensive remarks about Mexican immigrants that Trump made during his 2015 presidential campaign announcement speech.

In response to controversial comments Trump made about immigrants during a speech, as reported by CBS News, NBC chose to sever its business ties with him. A statement from NBCUniversal read, “Given Donald Trump’s recent derogatory remarks about immigrants, we are ending our professional relationship with him. Respect and dignity for all people are fundamental values at NBC.” NBC also decided not to cover the 64th Annual Miss USA pageant that year, which ultimately aired on Reelz Network. The Apprentice show was put on hold for two years before being revived with a well-known personality taking over from Trump.

The Apprentice didn’t last long after Donald Trump left

After Donald Trump, the previous president, stepped down as the host of “The Apprentice,” NBC decided to enlist a different famous figure instead. They chose Arnold Schwarzenegger, an actor and politician, who took over for Season 15 in 2017. However, these changes led to low viewership ratings. Subsequently, Schwarzenegger declared his unwillingness to continue with the show, and it has been on hiatus ever since.

Funny enough, my participation in the series led to another round of controversy with Trump, as he believed his ongoing link to the show was causing its poor reception. As I shared with Empire Magazine, “People have a bad aftertaste about the show because of Trump’s involvement. They don’t want to watch it, sponsor it, or support it in any way.” Every person I spoke to said, “I love the show… but as soon as I see Trump’s name, I turn it off!” Since I linked the disappointing box office performance of “The Last Action Hero” to politics, it seemed clear to me that the same would happen with “The Apprentice.

Trump fired back on his X, formerly known as Twitter, account, writing, “Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t voluntarily leaving the Apprentice, he was fired by his bad (pathetic) ratings, not by me. Sad end to great show.” Schwarzenegger responded by tweeting back, “You should think about hiring a new joke writer and a fact checker.” “The Apprentice” later surfaced to haunt Trump once more when an anecdote about a racial slur he uttered before some of the show’s crew was repeated in a Slate article written by former producer Bill Pruitt.
