Amazon’s Prime Video has officially greenlit another chapter for “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” as they’ve announced that a third season is on its way!
The highly anticipated “The Rings of Power” is currently preparing for filming and will start this spring at its new production base, Shepperton Studios in the UK. Ever since the series’ second season concluded in October, fans have been eagerly anticipating updates about its continuation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive report, the show is about to make a significant leap in time for its upcoming episodes. In this new phase, Sauron is seen working on the famous One Ring. Here is the exclusive summary: “The story advances several years from season 2 events, and season 3 unfolds during the peak of the Elves and Sauron’s war. The Dark Lord is trying to forge the One Ring, which he believes will provide him with the decisive advantage needed to win the war and ultimately conquer Middle-earth.
In the Second Age as penned by author J.R.R. Tolkien, the Elves’ War transpired – this being the initial significant conflict in Middle-earth against Sauron (Charlie Vickers). This battle took place prior to the skirmish depicted in the prelude of The Lord of the Rings films, a battle commonly known as the War of the Last Alliance.
As an eager fan, I’m thrilled to share that the team has unveiled their director lineup for the upcoming third season! Charlotte Brändström, a nominee for the International Emmy award who masterfully directed episodes in seasons one and two, is set to return for another round. Sanaa Hamri, known for her work on ‘The Wheel of Time’ and directing episodes in season two, will also be back. Joining us for the first time is Stefan Schwartz, whose impressive portfolio includes ‘The Boys’ and ‘The Walking Dead’. I can hardly wait to see what they bring to our favorite series in the third season!
In its inaugural run, “The Rings of Power” stands as Prime Video’s most successful television debut. When it comes to returning seasons, the second season has garnered the highest number of viewing hours. Amazon reports that a staggering 170 million global viewers have tuned in to this show, contributing significantly to new Prime membership enrollments.
The series “The Rings of Power” is created by showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, with Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and Charlotte Brändström serving as executive producers. Additionally, Matthew Penry-Davey serves as a producer, while Ally O’Leary, Tim Keene, and Andrew Lee work together as co-producers.
