As a dedicated fan who has spent countless hours immersed in Tolkien’s Middle-earth, I can hardly contain my excitement for the second season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power“. The introduction of the Stoors, distant cousins to our beloved Hobbits, is a testament to the intricate web of stories that weave through this magnificent world.
Looking forward to it, the much-awaited second installment of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is now available! Alongside this, there’s a lot of excitement brewing about new characters who share intriguing links with J.R.R. Tolkien’s cherished Hobbits. Co-showrunner Patrick McKay and Executive Producer Lindsey Weber have made it official that the Stoors will be making an appearance in Season 2. Similar to the Harfoot characters from Season 1, the Stoors belong to the lineage of the Hobbits and are set to interact this season with popular Harfoot characters like Nori Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh) and Poppy Proudfellow (Megan Richards), as well as The Stranger (Daniel Weyman). As their nomadic adventure across the Rhûn desert of Middle-earth unfolds, these characters may cross paths with them.
In an interview with MovieWeb, McKay revealed that one significant theme running throughout the entire Lord of the Rings prequel series is their exploration of the origins of Hobbits. “Season 2,” he explained, “continues this journey.” Tolkien wrote that in ancient times, there were several different branches of what would eventually become Hobbits. This season, we’re introduced to another one. We know there are at least three more out there, and this is just the beginning of the story leading us closer to the Shire and the name ‘Hobbit.'” He further noted:
“What appealed to us was the concept that during Nori’s travels, she could stumble upon things that resemble or mirror events from the Shire at a later stage. And interestingly, the Stoors are dwellers of deserts in their current era and reside in holes carved into the rock faces of their canyon, which might bear a distant resemblance to what could eventually evolve into Hobbit homes in the future.”

Tension and Drama Intensify in Season 2
In the second installment of The Rings of Power, J.D. Payne, Patrick McKay, and Lindsey Weber serve as showrunners and executive producers. Sauron, portrayed by Charlie Vickers, makes a comeback in another guise after being banished by Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) at the conclusion of the first season. This resurgent malevolent force is using his wit to regain power and supervise the construction of the Rings of Power, which will eventually enslave all Middle-earth’s inhabitants to evil and decay.
Search for Galadriel as she pursues Sauron, and gather the elves to unite their forces. Meanwhile, other strong bonds appear to break apart. The ensuing events promise a thrilling sequence that will culminate in the siege of the city of Eregion, famed for its intricate battle scenes, which are said to be among the series’ most spectacular and grandiose productions.
When asked if they completely immerse themselves in everything related to J.R.R. Tolkien and “The Lord of the Rings,” McKay and Weber were straightforward. “Absolutely,” McKay responded swiftly. “It’s a full-time commitment. On certain days, you truly inhabit it. We refer to our massive set for ‘The Stoor Canyon’ as a stage-filling wonder. And when we’re filming there, we experience it just as the characters do.” Weber further explained:
As you stroll along, your mind often wanders and you imagine, “Wow, they could easily pass for an elf, or they would fit well as a dwarf. Look at that man, his beard is perfect for a dwarf! It seems like you have a knack for envisioning characters from Middle-earth while walking.
