At this year’s Golden Globes, there were no shortage of Timothée Chalamet jokes that kept the night lively. Host Nikki Glaser kicked things off during her monologue, commenting on his “stunning upper lip eyelashes” and poking fun at his performance as Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown.” While it’s usual to see playful jabs directed towards the A-list celebrities in attendance, an unexpected moment of good-natured teasing came from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson who made a joke about Chalamet’s chest hair.
At this year’s Golden Globes, as depicted in the video, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, alongside his Moana co-star Auliʻi Cravalho, announced the Best Supporting Actress award. Given that they provide voices for the animated film rather than sharing screen time, during their presentation, the Hawaiian actress playfully teased Johnson, saying she thought he had more hair. In response, the Red One actor quipped about Timothèe Chalamet‘s chest hair, which took me by surprise.
Indeed, I’m quite the enthusiast when it comes to shaving, and I donate all of my grown hair for use in film sets that require it. Interestingly enough, about 30% of Timmy Chalamet’s Bob Dylan wig is made from Dwayne Johnson’s chest hair. Yes, I have the privilege of referring to him as Timmy.
In my initial assumption, I believed the surprising moment during the Golden Globes concerning Dwayne Johnson would be an awkward reunion with his Fast and Furious co-star Vin Diesel. However, I had expected all jokes about Timothée Chalamet to arise from Nikki Glaser’s opening monologue. Yet, Johnson unexpectedly joined in the fun himself by joking about how his chest hair resembles the Bob Dylan wig worn by the actor from Lady Bird! To my surprise, it seemed that the Best Actor nominee found this roast endearing and even chuckled warmly at it.
Dwayne Johnson is well-known for teasing his celebrity friends, especially Kevin Hart from their “Jumanji” days, and Cody Rhodes of WWE. Even Rhodes’ pet dog has been a target! However, Timothèe Chalamet isn’t someone Johnson usually jokes about because they haven’t worked together before. So it came as a surprise when Johnson decided to poke fun at Chalamet too.
Simultaneously, Dwayne Johnson has playfully suggested that he might grow some hair on his head for the remake of Moana. Unlike providing his voice as Maui in a recording studio, he’ll be bringing the shapeshifting demigod to life in the upcoming live-action Disney adaptation. At the Golden Globes E! red carpet event (as reported by People), Johnson expressed his excitement about running around as Maui with long hair. As filming for the Moana remake began in November, I imagine that The Scorpion King will sport a wig to achieve the long hair look of his Disney character. Perhaps Timothèe Chalamet could contribute some of his own chest hair for the Disney production!
During the Golden Globes, it was unexpected but amusing to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson make a chest-hair joke at Timothèe Chalamet. When the Moana remake releases, I’m sure he’ll receive plenty of roasts due to the former wrestler sporting a long full head of hair instead of his usual bald look.
