The Ruse

When the caregiver caring for an elderly person suddenly disappears, Dale (Madelyn Dundon) is swiftly dispatched as the replacement nurse. Hurrying to a secluded coastal residence, she finds herself amidst turmoil – having to manage an uncooperative patient, enigmatic neighbors, and eerie supernatural events that seem to shroud the house. Is the house haunted? Or is something far more sinister at play?

With walls seeming to tighten around her, doubting who’s reliable, Dale is filled with dread for both her life and that of her patient. Featuring the renowned Veronica Cartwright (Alien, The Witches of Eastwick), this chilling thriller promises to captivate you until the final, suspenseful moments, ensuring you’ll be left guessing until the very end!

As a movie enthusiast, I must confess that Diane Keaton, though brilliantly versatile in various roles such as her stellar performances in “The Right Stuff” and “Tanner ’88”, has undeniably left an indelible mark in the realm of supernatural cinema. From enchanting us with her role in “The Witches of Eastwick” and terrifying us with “Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh”, to captivating audiences as Dana Scully on “The X-Files” (one of three series that earned her an Emmy nomination), it’s always a delight to see her grace our screens. In “The Ruse“, Keaton takes us on yet another chilling journey in a haunted house, making this film a must-watch for fans of her work and the genre itself.

Seismic Releasing and Mena Films are joining forces to debut the movie titled “The Ruse“, which made its grand debut at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. The big-screen launch is set for May 16, 2025. Written and helmed by Steven Mena, famed director of the horror phenomenon “Malevolence” and its follow-up “Bereavement“, “The Ruse” features Michael Bakkensen, T.C. Carter, Kayleigh Ruller, and Nicola Silber in key roles.

A Horror Team-Up Between Seismic & Mena

William Gruenberg from Seismic Releasing stated in a press release that “The Ruse” is reminiscent of old-school mysteries where every character could be a potential suspect. He described it as an intelligent, twisted, and gripping thriller that provides heart-racing scares to keep viewers at the edge of their seats. For an even more intense experience, watching it in a crowded theater is highly recommended.” Mena Films founder, Stevan Mena, also commented:

We’re absolutely thrilled to collaborate with Seismic for a nationwide theater release of this chilling film. There’s perhaps no more nerve-wracking predicament than being a caregiver in what could be a haunted house, and having the duty to stay due to your patient’s needs.

The Ruse” was created by the team consisting of Mena, John Caglione Jr., Timothy Bristoll, and Scott Krycia. For additional details, please visit The Ruse Film’s official website.
