With an alleyway leading to their backyard, it was possible for someone to slip in unnoticed and access the back door. This neighborhood often attracted transients rummaging through backyards for recyclables. Upon arriving home, Lee would let Ruby out immediately but couldn’t remember if he had locked or unlocked the back door. However, nothing else seemed amiss inside the house except for Ruby’s phone lying on the floor and a chair turned upside down, indicating that an intruder might not have broken in forcefully.

They propose that her migraine, compounded by the cannabis in her system, which her husband confirmed she used for managing severe headaches, might have induced disorientation and affected her balance. They speculate that she may have tripped over the dog, causing Ruby to yelp, striking her head on an ornament, and subsequently falling down the stairs. Furthermore, Reddit user davismcgravis adds that once the footage and images of the basement entrance are shown in the episode, it seems “more plausible that it was a tragic accident.”
In my opinion, as a film critic, Abuliglig2 suggests that Amanda might have been wandering aimlessly, her thoughts clouded by injury and disorientation, unable to think clearly enough to seek help or even realize she was losing blood. The idea is put forth that she may have even laid down on the floor, thinking she just needed a moment’s rest before trying again.
Some Reddit users, on the other hand, find Ruby’s uncommon reaction less astonishing. Panicnarwhal shares an experience where they fainted on the kitchen floor after bumping their head and remained unconscious for nearly an hour. Interestingly, their three dogs didn’t show any concern during this time, even though they were in the same room (as confirmed by reviewing security camera footage).
