As a seasoned horror movie enthusiast who’s braved countless jump-scares and gory scenes, I can confidently say that “Terrifier 3” is a movie that will make even the most hardened fans cringe. Having seen both the first and second installments, I can attest to the fact that this franchise has a knack for pushing the envelope when it comes to on-screen violence.
In the U.K., the first screening of “Terrifier 3” took place, and it turned out just as we anticipated. As reported by LADbible, at least nine viewers couldn’t endure beyond the opening scene, with one individual even experiencing nausea, much like numerous others did when “Terrifier 2” dominated the box office in 2022. It seems that vomiting audiences in cinemas could become a regular tradition for this series. Actress Lauren LaVera, who portrays Sienna, even shared LADbible’s story on X and added a warning: “Be careful with your spaghettiOs before you watch!
In reply to LaVera, another user shared: “I watched Terrifier 2 with someone who needed to stay in the car and calm down after the mashed potato scene – they haven’t finished it yet; judging from these brief reviews, the 3rd movie could be lethal for them. I can hardly wait to see it!
It’s no shock that Terrifier 3 has pushed boundaries with its extreme violence, as director Damien Leone had previously hinted at in interviews. Back in November 2023, he spoke candidly to LADbible about his plans for the third installment, revealing that Hollywood studios found his ideas so disturbing they refused to back the project. He admitted, “I met with real Hollywood studios who wanted to make Terrifier 3… I knew they wouldn’t let me make this movie based on the first pages I showed them – it’s that extreme.
It’s truly amazing to see how “Terrifier 2” raked in over $15 million on such a modest budget of just $250,000. Guess they left quite a bit of cash on the table, Hollywood, didn’t they?
Earlier critics tried to warn us
Besides Damien Leone’s warnings from last year, reactions at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas last month also hinted at the intense gore that would characterize “Terrifier 3” upon its release in theaters. Phil Nobile Jr., editor-in-chief of Fangoria, expressed this sentiment on X by stating, “TERRIFIER 3 could very well be the most gruesome film ever shown on a multiplex screen.
Another critic whole-heartedly agreed, while also alluding to a scene that we get a sneak peek of in the trailer — which is an obvious homage to 1960’s “Psycho.” They wrote: “TERRIFIER 3 blew the damn roof off. Gonzo slasher horror cranked up to 11. Bursting with some of the most fantastically diabolical kills ever put to screen … Shower scene will go down in history. We have a new contender for best horror movie of the year.”
Preston Barta, a writer for both the Denton Record-Chronicle and FreshFiction, went as far as to exclaim: “Terrifier 3 is nothing short of incredible! Damien Leone has essentially created his own Sistine Chapel on screen using blood and gore.
The third installment of “Terrifier” is scheduled to leave American cinema-goers spellbound on October 11. Given the information we’ve received, it seems advisable to issue a word of caution: if you are someone who feels uneasy when confronted with excessive gore, it may be wiser to postpone your viewing until the movie becomes available on a streaming platform. This way, you can enjoy the convenience of the pause button and avoid having to rush to the bathroom.
