As a movie buff with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol” has been one of the most captivating and enthralling spin-offs in the franchise’s history. With its gripping storyline, exceptional performances by Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, and its stunning visuals, it’s no wonder that fans are eagerly anticipating Season 3.
Due to showrunner David Zabel, following the season finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, fans now have a notion of what lies ahead for Season 3 and future seasons. This series, titled Daryl Dixon, premiered in 2023, marking the fifth spin-off in the The Walking Dead franchise which originated with the primary series in 2010. The show centers around Norman Reedus’ character, Dixon, as he journeys through France, uncovering the roots of the zombie virus, his path to France, and his eventual reunion with his long-time friend, Carol (Melissa McBride).
Discussing the future of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which is projected to air in 2025 for its third season, Zabel recently spoke with Collider about potential storylines post-Season 3. So far, the series has adhered to a 12-episode arc per season, and if renewed for more episodes, Zabel plans to continue this approach, making Season 4 an extension of what’s already been established. As for seasons beyond that, he remains tight-lipped about any specific details, leaving the future mysteries up to our imagination.
If a Season 4 is produced, it would naturally expand upon and carry forward the narrative from Season 3, following the sequence I’ve established so far. I usually visualize the story in chunks of 12 episodes at a time, which equates to two seasons. Each season consists of six episodes, with the first 12 episodes forming a cohesive whole. If there is another set of 12 episodes, they will likely continue in the same vein. As for Season 5, anything could happen; I currently have no plans or ideas for that.
To date, the spin-off has been an impressive hit, garnering praise from many who claim it offers the finest Walking Dead content in years. Notably, this acclaim comes amidst other popular series such as Fear the Walking Dead and Dead City. Remarkably, Daryl Dixon boasts a 72% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Season 1 earning a Certified Fresh status of 70%, and Season 2 maintaining an impressive 75%.
Daryl and Carol Head to Spain in the Season 3 Teaser
In the final episode of “The Book of Carol,” Daryl honored his pledge to Isabelle, played by Clémence Poésy, by helping her nephew Laurent escape Paris and board a plane. However, since the aircraft could only accommodate three passengers (including the pilot), Dixon selflessly gave up his seat for Carol. But Carol had other plans – she wasn’t about to leave Daryl again after their recent reunion! So instead, they chose to walk the 50km journey through the Chunnel towards Englund.
Afterward came a sneak peek of Season 3 (as shown earlier), giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come when the show resumes next year. The short video begins with Daryl and Carol navigating post-apocalyptic London, guided by Stephen Merchant, who will be joining the cast of The Walking Dead in 2025 for the first time. The quick glimpse includes scenes ranging from a ship sailing across a large sea, to Daryl and Carol in Spain, where most of the season is anticipated to unfold. “I was about to give up,” Daryl says, “I thought it was all over.” To which Carol replies, “We both felt that way.” Fortunately, they were mistaken, as things seem far from ending for the pair.
The television series “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” was renewed for a third season two months prior to Season 2’s premiere, suggesting that we might not receive an official confirmation about the show’s future beyond the coming year for some time. Given its remarkable success, it’s reasonable to expect that AMC will continue to air the show. Fingers crossed that the creative team behind it gets to complete the next 12-episode storyline, which should take us into 2026.
