‘The White Lotus’ Checks Into the 2025 Emmy Noms With 23, Ties With ‘The Studio’

On Tuesday, the third season of Mike White’s HBO series garnered 23 Emmy nominations. This number was matched by Apple’s “The Studio,” a production co-created, co-written, directed, and starring in by Seth Rogen. Notably, HBO’s “The Penguin” received 24 nominations, while Apple’s “Severance” led the pack with a impressive 27 nominations.

In the spring of this year, the third season of “White Lotus” aired for seven consecutive weeks, wrapping up on April 6th with its finale. This newest installment featured stars such as Walton Goggins, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs, Natasha Rothwell, Sam Nivola, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jon Gries, and Sam Rockwell. The plot revolved around the lives of guests at a luxury resort.

In the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Goggins, Isaacs, and Rockwell have been nominated. Coon, Posey, Rothwell, and Wood are up for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Scott Glenn is nominated for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series. For outstanding writing and directing in a drama series, White has received recognition. The series itself has been nominated for Best Drama Series, competing against Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance, and Slow Horses.

Mike expressed his thoughts to The Hollywood Reporter before the final episode, during a cover story on White Lotus, regarding potential future seasons. “I’m thankful I get to continue working on it,” he said. “That’s my aim. However, everything will always be judged against something else. There’s a critic who remains unnamed, and they seem to say, ‘It’s not as good as the last one,’ even if they didn’t care for the previous installment!” he added. “I’ve certainly received enough compliments, so it might be beneficial for me to have some folks question, ‘Was that necessary?’

However, castmembers Schwarzenegger, Monaghan, Nivola and Bibb notably did not score noms.

Stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze is slated to emcee the 77th Emmy Awards, airing live on CBS on Sunday, September 14th (8 PM – 11 PM Eastern Time / 5 PM – 8 PM Pacific Time).
