The White Lotus’ Natasha Rothwell Reveals Her Wild Reaction To Seeing Jennifer Coolidge’s Character Die, And I Couldn’t Relate To This More

A highly anticipated, dazzling, and intriguing mystery drama series is back on our screens once more as HBO’s Season 3 of “The White Lotus” is set to debut. Although critics had varying opinions regarding it, viewers are already excited for its return. However, we may not find many answers from the unresolved questions in Season 2 or a conclusion to Portia’s storyline. Instead, we can look forward to catching up with Natasha Rothwell‘s character Belinda and discovering what she has been doing since then.

It’s unclear whether the masseuse will discover about Jennifer Coolidge’s character’s death in Season 2, but actress Sarah Rothwell herself has shared that she found out Tanya, her significant co-star from Season 1, was the main victim of Chapter 2. It might not come as a shock to many that Rothwell was equally surprised when she learned her screen partner was written off, and she too had to find out about it alongside global viewers. On the Today show, Rothwell admitted she is a dedicated fan and expressed her reaction: “I was devastated when I found out [my character’s co-star] got killed off.”

I can’t help but admit that I was incredibly passionate about Season 2. A memory that still stands out to me is when Jennifer’s character met her untimely end. The moment was so intense that I let out a loud yell and, well, in my excitement, I even hurled my phone across the room! After regaining my composure, I picked up my phone again and quickly texted Jennifer, expressing my disbelief: “Wow… what just happened?”

Instead of her initial instinct being to toss away the gadget she relied upon moments later for a response, it’s intriguing that the actress’ first action was throwing her phone, the same device she needed urgently to express her astonishment and dismay on social media to her former co-star. Lucky for us, she managed not to shatter the screen while doing so!

When Jennifer Coolidge spoke up, she acknowledged that, despite Rothwell being a significant figure in Season 1 and possibly knowing much about what creator Mike White planned for the characters, her exclusion from Season 2 made her no more informed than an ordinary spectator. In simpler terms, she said she was as clueless as the average viewer about what happened in Season 2.

And then, yeah, she was just like, ‘I couldn’t tell you.’

Given that White personally requested Natasha Rothwell to reprise her iconic Season 1 character in the upcoming episodes, it’s clear Rothwell is privy to the secrets that will keep viewers guessing as Season 3 unfolds. With Tanya no longer around, a fresh body is anticipated to surface at the Thailand resort, and Rothwell’s fellow actor Leslie Bibb hinted that the unfolding events won’t follow the usual fan expectations. As per Bibb:

The beginning of this isn’t typical for a White Lotus episode; there’s a death, yet it’s more than just a lifeless body.

This opening is unlike the norm for White Lotus episodes – there’s a deceased person, but it’s something else entirely. It isn’t merely a corpse in a bag.

Hopefully, the recent enigma surrounding this new corpse will unravel some connections to the previous two seasons that could shed light on Tanya’s demise and tie Jon Gries’ character Greg into it more closely. I’m really hoping for a satisfying resolution there, considering Jennifer Coolidge hinted at Greg’s questionable actions linking back to Season 1, which might just make him the most significant thread connecting all our storylines throughout this series.

As a cinephile eagerly awaiting the next installment, let me share that “The White Lotus” graces our screens once more with Season 3 on HBO, airing this Sunday, February 16 at 9:00 p.m. ET. For those who subscribe to Max, you’ll be able to stream this intriguing series without delay!
