The Wild Robot Sequel Greenlit By DreamWorks With Chris Sanders As Director

As a devoted fan of DreamWorks Animation, I must say I am absolutely thrilled at the news that The Wild Robot is getting a sequel. Having grown up watching classics like Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon, it’s heartening to see Chris Sanders continue his magical journey with another beloved character.

As a movie enthusiast who can’t hide my excitement, I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news! The mastermind behind DreamWorks’ animated wonders, Chris Sanders, has confirmed that The Wild Robot will indeed be getting a sequel. This was announced at Deadline Contenders, where he unequivocally stated, “Yes, there are definitely plans for a second one.

“100% yes there are absolutely plans for a second one.”

Based on the acclaimed children’s book by Peter Brown, titled “The Wild Robot“, this story follows a robot named Roz, who is given this nickname after being shipwrecked on an isolated island. As she adapts to her new environment and learns to cope with the wilderness, Roz tries to form friendships with the island’s inhabitants. A special bond develops between Roz and an orphaned gosling whom she names Brightbill. Known for its thoughtful examination of themes like friendship and survival, “The Wild Robot” boasts a remarkably gifted voice cast, including Lupita Nyong’o as Roz, Kit Connor as Brightbill, alongside Pedro Pascal, Bill Nighy, Mark Hamill, Catherine O’Hara, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames.

Even before the official confirmation, director Chris Sanders had subtly suggested that Roz’s adventure wasn’t complete, and he expressed his desire to continue working on her story with the team he has assembled. During an interview with NBC Insider, he was inquired about the prospect of a sequel, to which he indicated his openness to revisiting the project.

I’m eager to do so. The team’s dedication to this film is unlike any other project I’ve been a part of, and it extends to me as well. This studio has poured their hearts into this production, and indeed, I can’t help but feel drawn to spend more time here.

The Wild Robot Continues DreamWorks Animation’s Streak Of Box Office Hits

For several decades now, DreamWorks Animation has earned its name by taking cherished children’s books as a base and transforming them into blockbuster hits. The innovative animation they use to breathe life into these vibrant realms never fails to captivate viewers worldwide. As an example, “The Wild Robot” adopts a hand-painted style that combines the charm of classic Disney productions with the artistic flair of Hayao Miyazaki’s works.

In terms of business, the studio has previously created successful franchise series, such as Lilo & Stitch, How to Train Your Dragon, and The Croods. Interestingly enough, all these films were directed by Chris Sanders. They generated substantial box office revenue with earnings of $273 million, $494 million, and $587 million respectively, and paved the way for sequels. However, it was not Sanders who directed the sequels, but his creative influence is now focused on ensuring The Wild Robot continues to thrive.

To discuss further, “The Wild Robot” has mirrored its predecessors’ success and is currently raking in impressive box office figures. In its debut weekend, the film earned half of its production budget with a gross of $35 million compared to $78 million. As of October 11, it has accumulated a total of $148.5 million. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is causing quite a stir by garnering a Certified Fresh rating of 98% from 178 reviews.

In the future, there are two more books in Robert Brown’s trilogy that Sanders has to adapt. These are “The Wild Robot Escapes” and “The Wild Robot Protectes”. These books could offer a rich source of material to make the movie a heartwarming and exciting continuation of Roz’s adventure as she grows and encounters fresh obstacles. With Sanders at the helm, the sequel is sure to be just as captivating.
