It’s undeniable that Lin-Manuel Miranda is extraordinarily gifted, a fact that requires no further elaboration. After his triumph on Broadway with the acclaimed musical Hamilton, he has risen to become one of the busiest composers in Tinseltown. However, as per actor Andrew Rannells, Miranda’s most remarkable skills might lie in areas that we never get to witness on the big screen.
Rannells gained significant recognition for appearing alongside Josh Gad in the original Broadway production of “The Book of Mormon“. Interestingly, he temporarily stepped into the role of King George, replacing Jonathan Groff in 2015 when Groff had other obligations. At that time, Rannells and Miranda were sharing a dressing room. On “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon“, Rannells disclosed an intriguing fact – while he was playing the lead in one musical, Miranda was simultaneously writing another and listening to a third. He elaborated…
During our performance, it was undoubtedly Hamilton we were focusing on. However, adjacent to us was Les Miserables, a show that Miranda adores. He inquired from the crew members if they could transmit the sound from their theater into our dressing room. Thus, the live broadcast of Les Mis played alongside Hamilton. Simultaneously, Miranda was working on Moana, and I was struggling to read through it all.
Amazed by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s talent, I find it hard to imagine multitasking as he was, writing fresh tunes for Moana, tuning into Les Misérables music, and simultaneously starring in a different stage play – all at once! Such dedication and focus is truly remarkable.
Isn’t it awesome to have a live audio stream of “Les Mis” every single evening? I wonder if other theaters received the audio feed for “Hamilton” nightly. It does seem only fair. Interestingly, Lin-Manuel Miranda replied on Andrew Rannells’ Instagram post regarding his comments…
I CANT BELIEVE YOU TOLD THEM ABOUT MY SECRET LES MIS FEED
The cat’s out of the bag: Now, everyone on Broadway is bound to attempt securing a private audio feed for their preferred production in their dressing rooms, and this development can be attributed to Andrew Rannells’ disclosure. Here’s the complete interview where he discusses his thoughts below.

Certainly, it’s clear that Lin-Manuel Miranda’s talents from portraying Alexander Hamilton and working on Les Misérables night after night have certainly paid off. After all, the music he created for Moana has made the movie one of the most popular films across various streaming platforms for years now. It even garnered Oscar nominations and led to a sequel. However, the main criticism of Moana 2 was that the new music, not composed by Miranda this time, didn’t quite meet the high standards set by the original film.
Lin-Manuel Miranda didn’t contribute to the sequel of “Moana,” but he leveraged the success of “Moana” into other Disney ventures. He penned songs for “Encanto” and the live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid.” His latest compositions can be enjoyed in “Mufasa: The Lion King.
