‘The Woman in the Yard’ Trailer Reveals Ghastly New Horror From Blumhouse

If a woman cloaked in black mysteriously shows up in your garden, it would be wiser to keep her out. This is the predicament faced by Danielle Deadwyler in “Blumhouse’s The Woman in the Yard“. Following a string of mostly successful action movies, including Netflix’s recent hit “Carry-On”, director Jaume Collet-Serra returns to the horror genre with this film. Based on the first trailer, it seems that Collet-Serra has retained his knack for creating chilling horror scenes.

The first preview hints that the movie title might be quite straightforward. It doesn’t reveal much about the storyline, but a mysterious woman cloaked in black unexpectedly appears on a household’s lawn without any apparent reason and delivers a chilling message: “‘today is the day.’” Indeed, it’s the perfect type of horror trailer as it creates an unsettling ambiance while leaving just enough enigma to entice film enthusiasts. So, where did this woman in the garden appear from? We’ll need to watch this movie to discover!

The plot synopsis offers additional insights about the storyline: Danielle Deadwyler, known for her role in “Carry-On,” plays Ramona, a woman deeply mourning the loss of her husband (Russell Hornsby) following a car accident. Although injured herself, Ramona must care for their 14-year-old son (Peyton Jackson) and 6-year-old daughter (Estella Kahiha). Intriguingly, a mysterious woman (Okwui Okpokwasili) establishes residence on the front lawn of their rural farmhouse, gradually encroaching further each day.

Jaume-Collet-Serra Returns to the Horror Genre

Director Collet-Serra has a knack for various film genres. He sharpened his skills in horror with movies like the remake of House of Wax (2005), Orphan (2009), and the shark thriller, The Shallows (2016). During this time, he also made a name for himself in action films through collaborations with Liam Neeson, such as Unknown (2011), Non-Stop (2014), Run All Night (2015), and The Commuter (2018). Collet-Serra has also worked with Dwayne Johnson, on projects like Jungle Cruise (2021) and the upcoming Black Adam (2022). It’s exciting to see him return to horror as his talent in this genre is evident.

Director Collet-Serra is basking in the triumph of “Carry-On” on Netflix, a title that swiftly climbed into the Top Five most-watched Netflix productions ever, pushing aside “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” from the fifth position. The popularity of this Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman thriller has only grown since then, as it immediately became a hit when released over the holiday season on the platform. Notably, “Carry-On” also received positive reviews, which is impressive for an action-focused Netflix original film.

Composing by Sam Stefanak, the film titled “The Woman in the Yard” is set to debut on March 28, under the production of Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures.
