The Wrapp - Neopets, Warhammer, SNAP and more

As a long-time enthusiast of strategy games, I find myself drawn to titles like Mob Control and Warhammer 40K: Tacticus that offer more than just in-game purchases. It’s refreshing to see progression based on skill rather than wallet size.

Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.

Here’s your opportunity to peek into the gaming plans of our Pocket Gamer team members during this upcoming weekend! By doing so, you’ll catch a glimpse of some unusual and exciting activities we engage in when we’re not delivering the latest news and suggestions to you. This week, I’m excited to say that I will definitely (or at least try) play something fresh! The reason being, after my recent chat with Will on the latest Pocket Gamer Podcast, I’ve decided to give Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus a shot due to his positive review of the game.

I’ve been a massive fan of Warhammer since I was a kid, so the opportunity to play a proper strategy game (sorry, Warpforge) on my phone based around it is certainly enticing. I’ll just have to see how well it holds up, but with some of my favourite factions already appearing, if it is good I’ll probably find it hard to put down.

Instead of assuming I’d complete the game last week and starting to sound repetitive, I find myself going back to Honkai: Star Rail again! The latest Fugue kit leak suggests she could be an exceptional member for my Firefly break team. It remains unclear if she will surpass Ruan Mei as a support, but I lean towards more offensive support characters.

Additionally, I’ve found myself wanting to dive back into the charming world of Potion Permit. It’s an engaging RPG where you can collect resources and create various alchemical concoctions. Notably, my dog companion, whom I named Alchemutt, brings me endless joy. Such simple delights!

My pursuit of achieving Balatro while sitting still for five minutes persists. Now, I’ve managed to complete tasks on five different decks, leaving just one more hidden task to finish in order to accomplish them all.

Apart from these, there are some games I’ve been meaning to return to but with the challenging trio of responsibilities like judging for the IGF, the beginning of the Yakuza (Like a Dragon) TV series on Prime, my involvement in Dragon Age Veilguard, and an upcoming games expo, it seems quite difficult. Whew!

This coming weekend, I intend to carve out a bit of time to give Outerdawn’s freshly launched Grimguard Tactics a spin. I’ve been eagerly anticipating this one for quite some time. I’m a fan of turn-based role-playing games, especially on mobile devices. Real-time games can sometimes lead to my thumbs accidentally pressing the wrong virtual key. Moreover, I find myself drawn to Grimguard Tactics’ distinctive artistic style. I’ve always leaned towards dark and eerie themes in my gaming experiences rather than bright and cheerful ones.

As for now, I’ve been having a blast with Pocket Necromancer and Phobies. To be honest, Phobies has become a staple in my daily routine. Solving the many puzzles it presents keeps me engaged, and I must admit, I feel like I’m improving. Although I haven’t quite tipped the scale to more wins than losses yet, I sense that day is getting closer.

This weekend is here, and you know what that signals? More Pokemon Go events! This time, they’re offering Gigantamax Battles with up to 40 participants per battle. I plan on organizing several events centered around these battles in my town. Additionally, I aim to unlock all the in-game rewards for Neopets: Faerie Fragment, which requires me to gather every item for my Neopet account. One of these unlocks demands reaching level 500, so that’s a considerable amount of gameplay ahead!

This weekend, I’ve got a fresh challenge ahead – transforming into an emperor… or should I say, a ruler in the Age of Empires Mobile game. Though I won’t be using the title ’emperor’, I might as well call myself the supreme deity of this virtual world, wouldn’t you agree?

It’s widely known that many people have experienced Age of Empires or at least heard about it, and for me, Age of Empires II stands out as my favorite. Now, I can’t wait to explore more about the mobile version, since I’ve only managed to play beyond the tutorial up until now.

In conclusion, this weekend’s wrap(p) for me is playing Age of Empires Mobile and doing my usual dailies in Cookie Run Kingdom.

After spending some time playing lengthy, idle and in-game transaction games, I’m investigating if I can discover titles with a similar style that allow you to play and make advancements without pressuring purchases. Mob Control turned out to be delightful, and upon revisiting Warhammer 40K: Tacticus, I was also pleased with the discovery. This game offers more activities and greater autonomy in progressing based on your skills compared to other games, leaving me eager to see how far I can advance before encountering barriers.

It seems likely that the title for the swiftest paywall could be Plants Vs. Zombies 2. They must have known how eager we were to play this game, yet they disappointed us by making it almost impossible to win too quickly—which is frustrating, especially since Plants Vs. Zombies 3 has already been released in some countries. Unless I can find a way to access it, I’ll check if the issues with version 2 still persist.

She’s currently recuperating following a non-hospital treatment for tennis elbow, which may sound technical but essentially indicates she’s overused her gaming controller.

For more than a year, I’ve been hooked on Marvel SNAP. Although I’ve spent some cash on it, as Will pointed out, the appeal lies in the fact that you can make advancements without needing to purchase cards. Being a self-confessed geek with a penchant for comic book characters, constructing a deck featuring my favorite superheroes provides a delightful excitement.

After several months, I’ve been focusing on a “destroy” deck strategy, featuring characters like Deadpool, Wolverine, Carnage, Death, and so on, with Arnim Zola for added flavor. But recently, I discovered the immense power of Silver Surfer. Wow, it’s incredible! By playing some 3-power cards early in the game (Brood is a great option due to its 3-for-1 ability), Silver Surfer, when combined with Wong and Mystique, consistently amplifies the strength of locations.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the High Voltage event within the game. This event compacted the fundamental rules of Marvel SNAP into a thrilling three-round, fast-paced encounter. However, due to the format restrictions, I wasn’t able to use my Magik card since it prolongs the endgame. Instead, I substituted her with Bishop, aiming to score points quickly as I utilized the rest of my cards. Sadly, the High Voltage event concluded on Thursday together with the October balance adjustments, so regular gameplay is on the agenda this weekend. Regardless, I’m still hooked and eagerly anticipate deploying my newly-crafted Silver Surfer setup in the main game.

If I set up an Alliance, does anybody want to join?
