As a hardcore gamer and avid follower of the entertainment industry, I’ve seen my fair share of buzz surrounding rising stars. But none have captured the public’s imagination quite like Glen Powell lately. With his leading roles in box office hits like “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Anyone but You,” as well as critically acclaimed films “Hit Man” and “Twisters,” it seems that Glen is here to stay.
In the realm of entertainment, Glen Powell’s dominance is undeniable at the moment. Over the past few years, he has starred in blockbuster hits such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Anyone but You.” Furthermore, in 2024, he took the lead roles in critically acclaimed films like “Hit Man” and “Twisters,” which have been box office sensations. Given Powell’s current popularity, fans are comparing him to iconic figures like Batman and James Gunn. While this comparison may seem unusual at first, there is a logical explanation behind it.
Enthusiasts, particularly those drawn to superhero stories, are remarkably observant. They eagerly absorb every spoken word from their favorite celebrities and scrutinize their actions, even in the digital realm. More recently, Glen Powell has joined this group of attentive fans by following an impressive number of DC stars on Instagram. Among those Powell chose to follow are James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, Andy Muschietti, director of “The Brave and the Bold,” and Zachary Levi, star of “Shazam!” Additionally, Powell added David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Isabela Merced from the “Superman” cast to his list.
As a fan, I’d like to point out that the recent Instagram activities of The Devotion star might simply be a coincidence. After all, he and David Corenswet, who portrays Clark Kent/Supes in the upcoming DC movie universe, have previously worked together on “Twisters.” However, it’s intriguing to consider why the actor would follow so many individuals connected to Warner Bros.’ upcoming DC projects. But beyond that, what connection does any of this have to Batman? It remains to be seen.
For those who have been following DCU Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, you may be aware that The Brave and the Bold is set to introduce Batman into the new cinematic universe. With Glen Powell recently following Andy Muschietti on Instagram, it’s hard not to speculate about what this could mean. At the very least, Everything_DCU is excited about the possibility of Powell playing the role of Batman. The X account even posted a picture of Powell with the most recent Superman actor (and their Twisters co-star Katy O’Brian) and expressed their support for this casting choice.
If true, I’d love it. David Corenswet and Glen Powell have great chemistry.
The actor from “Hidden Figures,” who has been rumored for the Batman role, hasn’t officially confirmed his participation yet. He’s hinted at his interest in the part, sharing that he would bring a unique perspective similar to Michael Keaton’s iconic portrayal. Personally, I’m unsure if this is the best choice as I have some reservations about him fitting the character. Nonetheless, it’s intriguing to consider the possibility.
For those excitedly waiting for “The Brave and the Bold” movie, it may be a prolonged period before its release in theaters. In November 2023, an update from DC arrived, suggesting that the film was still in its infancy during the production process. During this month, James Gunn confirmed the Batman project when queried by a fan, revealing that no script had been submitted yet. Consequently, casting seems to be a considerable distance away. However, Glen Powell’s social media activity hints at potential DCU collaborations with various talents. Whether it is just online friendships or the initiation of creative partnerships remains to be seen.
Currently, be aware that the initial DC Universe film, titled “Superman” directed by James Gunn, is set to premiere in cinemas on July 11, according to the 2025 movie lineup. I strongly recommend you explore further and learn about other upcoming DC films as well.
