As a gamer with a soft spot for Marvel movies and a deep appreciation for Channing Tatum‘s versatility, I have to say that his portrayal of Gambit was nothing short of impressive. Having grown up watching Tatum’s early works like Step Up and Magic Mike, it’s clear that the man has some serious dance moves in his repertoire.
When Deadpool and Wolverine graced the silver screen, Marvel enthusiasts didn’t anticipate the numerous unexpected cameos that the movie offered. What was particularly astonishing was Channing Tatum’s debut as Gambit, a portrayal that turned into an amusing internet sensation, largely due to his Cajun accent that has been likened to the Minions. Regardless of personal opinions about Tatum’s interpretation of Gambit, it’s evident that he dedicated considerable effort to embodying the Marvel character, as a recent video demonstrates.
From a young age, Channing Tatum had an innate talent for dance – a fact evident even in his early career when he starred as a lead in the 2006 movie “Step Up”. In this video, you can see him mastering Gambit’s action moves, showcasing that experience. Give it a watch:

In the movie Deadpool & Wolverine, it appears as though Gambit is effortlessly fending off enemies from The Void with finesse. However, this training video brings to mind the dance-centric film Step Up. It seems that the fighting choreography is more akin to dance than one might initially assume, and it’s clear that Tatum still moves as gracefully as a dancer.
Apart from appearing in the first two “Step Up” films, the actor is also widely recognized for his roles in the “Magic Mike” series, loosely based on his past as a stripper prior to his major break in Hollywood. Channing Tatum starred and produced all three “Magic Mike” movies to offer viewers a glimpse into the realm of male stripping, complete with intricate choreography.
Although it might appear coincidental that Channing Tatum played Gambit alongside the revival of Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, and Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm, there’s a fascinating tale behind this ensemble. Tatum had been contracted to star in a Gambit movie as early as 2014 within Fox’s X-Men universe. However, the film remained in a state of limbo for years until Fox merged with Disney in 2019, at which point the Gambit movie was officially cancelled.
Without a doubt, he has earned recognition for himself. Moreover, an extra scene featuring Gambit in Marvel’s production caused quite a stir among fans, and Ryan Reynolds stated that the role was perfect for Chan Tatum. Although there are no confirmed upcoming Marvel movies with Gambit on the release schedule, we can’t help but wonder if Channing Tatum might reprise his role as the Marvel hero in the future!
