As a fan who has followed Theresa Nist’s journey on The Golden Bachelor, it’s fascinating to see where her life has taken her since that whirlwind romance with Gerry Turner. It seems clear now that the ocean-loving Theresa was never meant for the cornfields of Indiana.
Theresa Nist experienced romance on ‘The Golden Bachelor’ alongside Gerry Turner. They became engaged swiftly, tied the knot live on television a few months later, but their marriage lasted only a short while longer. The public had followed their tumultuous journey, questioning why the initial ‘Golden’ couple failed to thrive. Distance appears to have been a recurring challenge, as Gerry resided in Indiana and Theresa in New Jersey, and her recent social media posts hint that she may not have found contentment in relocating for him.
The 71-year-old posted a love letter of sorts to her home near the ocean. The Instagram images and videos — which were all either taken of her or by her — show the gorgeous East Coast beaches and skies, and it seems obvious in hindsight that she would never have been happy leaving that for the Midwest. There were many stories going around about the reasons behind the split of The Golden Bachelor‘s first married couple, but one included an argument concerning Indiana’s cornfields. Ex-Bachelor Ben Higgins claimed that toward the end of their marriage, they had a disagreement while passing through Gerry Turner’s home state in a car, when Theresa Nist had questioned hypothetically what would happen to the land if it were developed. This remark apparently upset her husband.
In the detailed description that goes with this post, it’s clear Theresa Nist isn’t your typical farm girl, since she describes herself differently, saying:
Over the past 14 years, I’ve resided away from the ocean, but now that I do, the sea seems to hold an irresistible charm for me. The journey begins with a leisurely ride down a scenic, tree-lined road, followed by crossing a bridge over a bustling river filled with boats and jet skis, which instantly transport me to a holiday mood. Upon arriving at the beach, I discard my shoes in the dunes and let my feet touch the sand. I embark on a stroll towards the ocean, then along the water’s edge, soaking up every bit of it.
Her love for the area is palpable, and looking at the photos and videos, I can fully understand her not wanting to leave, especially with her family being there and having another grandchild on the way. She continued:
Waves that are soft or powerful, kids laughing, people surfing, seagulls and sandpipers running about, pebbles and seashells to collect, the sea’s scent delightful to breathe in, music playing (it always feels like there’s music), and either watching the sun rise or set since I’m usually there at dawn or dusk. The ocean is a balm for me. It provides therapy, healing and excitement all at once.
After the separation, some people speculated that Gerry Turner was found deceitful due to his claim about moving with his new spouse. However, a former contestant on “Golden Bachelor,” Susan Noles, disclosed later on that it was Theresa who had chosen not to leave her job and relocate instead.
A full year has gone by since Theresa Nist experienced her fast-paced romance, and it appears to me that she is content living near the beach without any regrets. It’s hoped that when Joan Vassos’ debut season of The Golden Bachelorette makes its way onto the 2024 TV lineup, she’ll be able to discuss location freely with her potential partners. This exciting event starts at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 18, and can be streamed the following day with a Hulu subscription on ABC.
