As a cinephile with a deep appreciation for cinema history, I am absolutely thrilled by the inclusion of Thierry Frémaux’s Lumiere: Le Cinema at the Red Sea International Film Festival! Having spent countless hours immersed in the tales woven by pioneering filmmakers, it’s truly fascinating to witness the evolution of this art form.
The Red Sea International Film Festival of Saudi Arabia has included Thierry Frémaux’s “Lumiere: Cinema” in its selection of films from around the world.
Thierry Fremaux, the artistic director of the Cannes Film Festival, has created a follow-up to Lumiere: The Adventure Begins, focusing on the origins of cinema by showcasing more than 100 freshly restored films. In Jeddah, Fremaux, who is also head of the Lumiere Institute in Lyon, will be present for the screenings of his movie.
Shivani Pandya Malhotra, head of the Red Sea Film Fest, expressed in a statement: “We’re proud to welcome Lumiere: Le Cinema at our festival. This movie is an essential tribute to the roots of all contemporary audio-visual material, highlighting the groundbreaking innovators who transformed storytelling through visual means. The knowledge that Thierry Frémaux brings about cinema history is consistently priceless, and we’re excited to let our viewers experience this.
The upcoming film will be alongside previously announced competition titles such as Reema Kagti’s “Superboys of Malegaon”, debuted at the Toronto Film Festival, and Kurdwin Ayub’s “Moon”, which premiered for the first time at the Locarno Film Festival and received the special jury prize.
On the first evening of the Jeddah festival, they will showcase Karim Shenawi’s film titled “The Tale of Daye’s Family“.
Among the international films that have been announced are titles such as R.T. Thorne’s “40 Acres,” Michael Gracey’s “Better Man,” Anderson .Paak’s “K-Pops!”, J.C. Chandor’s “Kraven the Hunter,” Pablo Larrain’s “Maria” (with Angelina Jolie portraying opera diva Maria Callas), and Johnny Depp’s biopic titled “Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness.
The Red Sea event has arranged to debut Max Shiskin’s post-apocalyptic action film, called The Last Ronin, for the first time.)
