As a long-time viewer and enthusiast of Dancing with the Stars, I find myself constantly intrigued by the dynamics that unfold each season. The recent finale of Season 33, which saw Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson take home the Mirrorball Trophy, has left me with a mixed bag of emotions. Don’t get me wrong; I enjoyed watching Graziadei’s journey throughout the season, but as a true dance aficionado, I couldn’t help but feel that Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong deserved the victory, especially after their flawless performance during finale night.
During the 2024 television lineup, the Season 33 winners of “Dancing with the Stars” were announced as the recipients of the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy in November. Former “Bachelor” contestant Joey Graziadei and his partner Jenna Johnson emerged victorious, but not everyone was satisfied with how things unfolded. Recently, former professional dancer Cheryl Burke shared her thoughts, and I must admit, I find myself in agreement.
The five finalists for the competition were Danny Amendola, Chandler Kinney, Stephen Nedoroscik, Ilona Maher, and Graziadei. It eventually came down to Maher and Graziadei in the final round. Cheryl Burke mentioned on her “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans” podcast that Graziadei was the “true standout,” although he won the competition fair and square. However, it’s important to note that this competition doesn’t always go to the best dancer. And she’s correct in saying that.
Nowadays, “Dancing with the Stars” appears to be more about who has the largest fan base, regardless of their dancing skills. It’s not uncommon for some debatable eliminations and finalists in this show. On the other hand, being a part of “Bachelor Nation” can significantly impact an alum’s career. This isn’t always beneficial, as demonstrated by Jenn Tran from “The Bachelorette.” However, it did seem to help Graziadei, despite his not being the best dancer, as Breanne Heldman from People magazine agreed with a guest that Kinney was technically superior.
Typically, Cheryl Burke isn’t shy about expressing her opinions on a particular subject, particularly in relation to DWTS. Throughout the entire season, she’s been sharing her insights weekly on her podcast, making it no surprise that she has plenty to say about the finale and who she believes deserved the win. Although I enjoyed watching Joey Graziadei dance with Jenna Johnson this season, I must admit that I would have preferred Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong to take home the trophy, especially after they received the only perfect score during the final night.
Frequently, supporters of “Dancing with the Stars” find themselves at odds when deciding on the winners. Sometimes, the winner is popular due to a large fanbase, while others triumph without prior dance experience and beat out competitors who have years of experience. Occasionally, an unexpected competitor takes the title. These outcomes often spark debate, making it interesting to hear opinions from veterans like Cheryl Burke about the winners.
I’d love to see another season of “Dancing with the Stars” featuring top dancers from across all seasons, regardless of their final placement. While it’s uncertain if this will occur, you can currently stream Season 33 with a Disney+ subscription.
