‘This Is Spinal Tap’ Sequel Lands at Bleecker Street for September Release

Bleecker Street has secured the American distribution rights for the classic ’80s comedy “This Is Spinal Tap” and its forthcoming sequel, titled “Spinal Tap II: The Saga Goes On.

As a devoted gamer diving back into the world of Spinal Tap, I’m excited to share that two movies are helmed by Rob Reiner. Once again, we have Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer bringing their characters from the legendary fictional English heavy metal band Spinal Tap to life. In this new chapter, titled “Spinal Tap II,” the band gathers after a 15-year hiatus for what appears to be their swansong concert, as suggested by the producers’ synopsis.

The sequel to “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues” is set for a broad cinema launch on September 12. Martin DiBergi, portrayed by Rob Reiner, will reprise his on-screen role as documentarian, while stars like Elton John, Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood make special appearances. Andrew Karpen, CEO of Bleecker Street, and Kent Sanderson, president of the same company, expressed their gratitude for collaborating with Rob Reiner and the team behind the original ‘This Is Spinal Tap.’ They are thrilled to be a part of a film that has struck a chord with so many. For them, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ is more than just a movie; it’s a cultural icon that paved the way for the mockumentary genre and left an unforgettable imprint on both cinema and music. Working on ‘Spinal Tap II’ offers a unique opportunity to honor its legacy while crafting something new and exciting for both novice and dedicated fans,” they stated.

For the upcoming sequel, you’ll see Paul Shaffer, Fran Drescher, Don Lake, John Michael Higgins, Nina Conti, Griffin Matthews, Kerry Godliman, and Chris Addison on screen. Additionally, Bleecker Street has scheduled a U.S. theater release this summer for the refurbished version of “This Is Spinal Tap“. Following that, it will be available for digital and streaming viewing.

The film “Spinal Tap II” is brought to you by the production team of Reiner, Michele Reiner, and Matthew George, backed by Castle Rock Entertainment. Derrick J. Rossi PhD, Hernan Narea, Jonathan Fuhrman, and Christopher H. Warner all hold executive producer positions in this project.

The agreement concerning the distribution was facilitated by John Burnham on behalf of Atlas Artists, as well as Kent Sanderson and Avy Eschenasy from Bleecker Street.
