As a longtime fan of both Thom Yorke and UNDERCOVER, I can confidently say that this collaboration is a match made in musical-fashion heaven! The fact that they’ve been friends for years only adds to the excitement.
As a dedicated fan of Thom Yorke, the charismatic frontman for Radiohead and The Smile, I can’t help but feel excited about his recent collaboration with Jun Takahashi, the visionary behind UNDERCOVER. Last March, during Tokyo Fashion Week for Fall 2021, Thom graced us with an acoustic rendition of Radiohead’s debut single “Creep,” perfectly aligning with Takahashi’s collection named “Creep Very.” This stunning collaboration captured the essence of the remixed song’s stripped-down vibe. Now, after years of friendship, Thom and Jun have joined forces once more, this time in a professional capacity, to create an extraordinary new project that was initiated by Thom himself.
Starting from November 12th, Yorke is setting off on a solo tour spanning ten locations across Japan. He reached out to UNDERCOVER, expressing his desire to collaborate on a ready-to-wear collection inspired by the sketches and poems he’s been amassing in his notebook over the years. Takahashi carefully selected the most impactful pieces to transform into eye-catching graphic designs for T-shirts and sweatshirts. The collection features “Thom Yorke University” T-shirts, images of Yorke photographed by Michael Avedon adorned with illustrative eyes, and poetic phrases cascading down the back of “Pain & Confusion” tops.
On November 15th, the UNDERCOVER x Thom Yorke collection will be available for purchase both online and at our stores located in Shibuya PARCO and Shinsaibashi PARCO. Prices for this collection will range from approximately $108 USD to $181 USD.
A select number of the “Don’t Get Me Started” singles (12 inches each), that were quickly snapped up by customers at certain record stores when they hit the shelves in August, will now become available for purchase at UNDERCOVER retail outlets. Meanwhile, a unique Thom Yorke zine and a restricted edition of “Live at Electric Lady” 12-inch records will only be offered at concert venues during the tour. Check out the lineup displayed in the gallery above.
