Timothée Chalamet Set to Star in Josh Safdie's A24 Film 'Marty Supreme'

As a passionate gamer and film enthusiast, I can’t help but be excited about Timothée Chalamet’s latest project, “Marty Supreme.” The fact that he’s teaming up with Josh Safdie once again for an A24 production is already a winning combination in my book. I’ve been following Chalamet’s career closely, and his admiration for the Safdie brothers is well-documented. In his essay for Variety, he beautifully described their work as “contemporary, raw, and untethered,” which resonated deeply with me.

Timothée Chalamet is preparing for his next venture, which will be a movie produced by A24 and directed by Josh Safdie. The film, called “Marty Supreme,” tells the story of a skilled ping pong player named Marty Reisman.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be collaborating with Chalamet, Eli Bush, and Anthony Katagas on a new film production. Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein are set to write the script for this project. It’s exciting to see Chalamet teaming up with A24 again, as they have previously worked together on successful films like “Uncut Gems” and “Good Time.” A24 recently announced the upcoming film on Twitter with the caption, “Josh Safdie’s MARTY SUPREME starring @RealChalamet. Coming soon.”

I’ve always been captivated by the Safdie brothers’ unique storytelling in their films. Although the movie isn’t a completely accurate portrayal of Marty Reisman’s life and is fictional to some extent, it explores the fascinating aspect of his connection to table tennis. Reisman, who tragically passed away in 2012, was a legendary champion who made his mark on the sport in Manhattan by playing for wagers and cash prizes. Between 1946 and 2022, he amassed an impressive record of 22 major table tennis titles and earned five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. Even at the age of 67, Reisman made history by becoming the oldest player to win an open national competition in a racket sport at the United States National Hardbat Championship. Known as the “wizard of table tennis,” Reisman’s achievements continue to inspire awe. Chalamet, who has long admired the Safdie brothers, expressed his appreciation for their work in a 2019 essay for Variety. He noted that the pair have consistently produced contemporary and gritty films for over a decade, each one building on the traits of the previous but never compromising their raw edge.

At the time of writing, the official release date for Marty Supreme has not been confirmed.
