Timothy Dalton’s Surprising Take on Amazon’s James Bond Future!

The recent announcement that Amazon’s acquisition of the James Bond film franchise is causing a stir, even amongst some of the actors who have played the iconic super spy role. The latest actor from the franchise to express shock at the news that Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson will no longer be involved in future Bond productions is , who portrayed one of the most rugged and fierce Bonds before Daniel Craig’s debut in Casino Royale.

After portraying Bond in “The Living Daylights” (1987) and “Licence to Kill” (1989), Timothy Dalton’s time as 007 was relatively brief compared to others, and his films are sometimes overlooked because of this. Yet, the actor graciously expressed his thoughts on the significant changes happening within the franchise. He spoke to Radio Times about these changes:

I was incredibly taken aback and dismayed to learn about Barbara’s role. She’s an exceptional woman and a remarkable producer, much like her father Cubby Broccoli, whom I had a great rapport with and held in high regard. He was a formidable and steadfast pillar for the project; nothing happened without his approval. It’s painful that he’s no longer here, and I can only express my feelings about this. He was the driving force behind the show, and now that’s not the case.

Timothy Dalton Says One Thing Everyone Is Thinking About Amazon’s ‘Bond’ Takeover

Despite no longer being involved with the James Bond series, the actor expresses nostalgia for his Bond movie experiences and hopes that Amazon continues to produce films that reflect what made the franchise successful. He also acknowledged that, as with any business venture, Amazon’s ultimate goal is to generate profits from the franchise. Additionally, he mentioned:

Throughout the years, films have followed various paths, yet there’s an undeniable charm in the originals. I hope Amazon recognizes this and creates a movie that has sparked joy and fun for countless individuals. Wishing them success on their endeavor! May they thrive and produce exceptional cinema.

Dalton recently expressed his thoughts, following Amazon MGM Studios’ announcement of a leadership change, which also saw Daniel Craig offering a restrained response, expressing appreciation for Broccoli and Wilson but not commenting much on the new direction for the IP. The fans, however, have been quite vocal in their criticism, labeling it a “sell-out.” They argue that Bond’s on-screen death in the 2022 film “No Time to Die” symbolizes the franchise’s current state.

Indeed, it’s going to take several more years before we can witness the fruits of this change, and it remains to be seen how Amazon intends to utilize the IP. It could potentially prove beneficial. Time will tell.
