Timothy West, Legendary British Stage, TV and Film Actor, Dies at 90

It was announced on social media on Thursday that Timothy West, a renowned British actor who excelled in theater, movies, and television, and was married to Prunella Scales, had passed away at the age of ninety.

Spanning his career were performances in Shakespearean dramas, movies like “The Day of the Jackal”, and long-running television series such as “EastEnders” and “Coronation Street”.

Following an exceptional and lengthy career that spanned both the stage and off, our beloved father, Timothy West, passed away tranquilly last night,” the children Juliet, Samuel, and Joseph West stated in a release via platform X. “At the age of 90.

“It is noted that Tim was surrounded by friends and loved ones at the end of his life. He leaves behind his wife, Prunella Scales, whom he was married to for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. We will all deeply mourn his passing.

West’s on-screen appearances featured in “The Day of the Jackal” (1973) where he portrayed Commissioner Berthier, as well as “Cry Freedom” (1987).

In the year 2013, he made a brief appearance in the soap opera “Coronation Street”. The following year, he joined the cast of “EastEnders” as Stan Carter, a role he played for over a year. His latest television credits include being part of “Gentleman Jack”.

On British television, West made appearances in adaptations of tales by Roald Dahl and Charles Dickens, such as “Oliver Twist.” In the series “Great Canal Journeys,” he and his wife, Scales, expressed their passion for boat travel on narrowboats while also depicting how they handled Scales’ dementia during their travels.
