  • There’s never the same course every day – random permutations beget fun
  • For a disc golf, the floor is lava, so reach the baskets with the least throws possible
  • Try your best to score some achievements through creative ways

As a seasoned veteran of both the real and virtual golfing worlds, I can confidently say that Tiny Disc has managed to capture the spirit of disc golf in a delightfully portable package. The simple yet engaging gameplay, combined with the ever-changing courses, keeps me coming back for more, even on my busiest days.

Could that object be a bird, an airplane, or possibly an extraterrestrial spacecraft? As it turns out, it was just a frisbee – a popular toy in the 20th century United States with a design resembling a UFO. Although we never discovered if these mysterious visitors actually existed, we can still enjoy disc golf, a sport that revolves around playing with frisbees.

This specialized sport, often eclipsed by the popularity of its counterpart, golf, belongs to an exclusive category. Fortunately, Short Circuit Studio has taken the initiative to showcase its appeal in a compact version, enhancing accessibility due to the limited availability of disc golf courses globally.

Meet the discs over yonder

The goal is straightforward: throw the disc into five baskets scattered across the map, specifically those within the disc’s circular range. To achieve this, you have at your disposal three different methods of throwing: Putter for short distances, Midrange for medium distances, and Drive for long distances.

In simpler terms, a Putter is for getting your disc into the basket when you’re close to it, a Midrange disc serves its purpose clearly, while a Drive disc helps you cover long distances between two spots. There’s also an option to make the disc curve left or right, which works best in mid-range throws. Once everything is ready, you prepare your throw by pulling and holding, then letting go to watch your disc take flight.

Fling, and take flight!

You don’t advance level by level as in Candy Crush. Instead, each day presents a unique golf course with randomly arranged layouts and basket positions. On Mondays, you could find yourself on a frosty tundra mirroring your Monday mood; while on Fridays, you might encounter a sunny tropical beach to herald the arrival of the weekend.

In this game, you have full control over how to move your disc – there’s no predetermined route or strict order in which to score baskets. It’s up to you to decide the most efficient path with the fewest throws possible. The game offers various funny ways to earn achievements and is a great way to showcase your creativity!

Here’s the catch

Get ready for an “advertisement catastrophe,” as it’s crucial for repeat gameplay (with cosmetic considerations to some extent). In this setup, you’ll receive a single free play each day. Any additional attempts on the same level or re-plays of yesterday’s levels will require watching an advertisement.

You can opt for an unlimited play pass priced at about RM22.90 (or four quids), which offers great value for endless entertainment without the annoyance of frequent ads. Unfortunately, the competitive match mode is camouflaged behind a trophy symbol, but due to lengthy matchmaking times, it often seems like a prolonged waiting game rather than an engaging competition.

Not having an upgrade system can be both beneficial and challenging. While coins are only useful for cosmetic changes, it means the game doesn’t require any tier upgrade system that enhances your disc-throwing skill, which might disappoint strategy enthusiasts. On the other hand, if you don’t care much about customizing your disc, you’ll avoid being bombarded with numerous ads to earn coins.
