As a gamer with a keen interest in both technology and history, I eagerly await the release of this documentary about the Titan submersible tragedy. Being a connoisseur of underwater exploration games, I can only imagine the thrill and terror that Aron Arngrimsson experienced as he closed the hatch on that fateful day. The fact that he was the last person to see those five brave souls alive adds an extra layer of suspense and emotional impact to this story.
12 Dirty Dozens Productions and RadicalMedia have revealed a documentary chronicling the tragic implosion of the Titan submersible on June 2023, during which five individuals lost their lives while heading towards the Titanic’s wreckage in the North Atlantic.
The movie is helmed by Aron Arngrimsson, who reportedly was the last individual to witness the crew of the Titan alive before they embarked. The documentary, currently in post-production, will showcase original footage from Arngrimsson depicting the Titan as it started its doomed voyage prior to the ensuing disaster following the loss of its signal.
The synopsis from the producers indicates that Arngrimsson shares the deeply personal emotions of five Titan crew members. By doing so, he unveils the private family tales hidden behind sensational news headlines and exposes the heart-wrenching aftermath of a mission that went awry.
The U.S. Coast Guard determined that the missing submarine likely exploded while diving close to the location of the Titanic’s wreckage, resulting in an immediate loss of life for everyone on board.
The submarine was managed by OceanGate Expeditions, a company whose leader, Stockton Rush, tragically passed away as well. Previously, Rush faced criticism following public interviews where he openly discussed his use of uncertified off-the-shelf parts to construct the submersible.
The catastrophic collapse of the Titan drew worldwide attention, reporting not only on the event itself but also on the tragic loss of five lives aboard. “We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive narrative of this significant incident,” stated Arngrimsson on Tuesday, “by securing exclusive insights from the Titan crew members and conversing with the families in its aftermath.
The documentary will be premiered in 2025, aiming for a tour on the film festival circuit and availability on prominent streaming services.
Stacey Reiss, executive producer at RadicalMedia, noted that Aron had an extraordinary level of access to the Titan crew, their loved ones, and this story. He was a part of these events as they unfolded in real life. To accurately portray this significant narrative, which garnered extensive media coverage, we felt it was crucial to present it truthfully,” Reiss explained.
This movie is brought to you by Reiss, Antti Apunen, Geoff Creighton, and Arngrimsson, with Louie Psihoyos, Dave Sirulnick, and Brian Henderson sharing executive producer roles. Previously, ITN Productions had released a documentary titled “The Titan Sub Disaster: Minute by Minute“, which was broadcast on Channel 5 in the U.K. earlier this year.
