TNT Sports’ Latest Bet: More College Basketball

As a seasoned gamer and sports enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I must say this news about TNT Sports partnering with The Players Era Festival for more college basketball is music to my ears! I remember when cable TV was still a novelty, and TNT was just starting to make a name for itself in the world of sports broadcasting. Now, they’re not only a household name but also stepping up their game in the rapidly evolving landscape of college athletics.

TNT Sports might or might not show the NBA after the upcoming season, but they’re certainly going to broadcast more college basketball for sure.

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned Warner Bros. Discovery’s sports division has joined forces as the broadcast partner for The Players Era Festival. This exciting event is a spin-off of Ian Orefice’s EverWonder Studio’s NIL brand, Players Era. The festival promises a double dose of competition with two tournaments, and here’s the best part – for athletes from each participating team, there are over $1 million in opportunities beyond the competitions themselves to leverage their name, image, and likeness!

The 2024 event is set to commence on November 26th, showcasing eight teams playing a total of twelve matches. Among these are Alabama, Rutgers, Texas A&M, and San Diego State University. Moreover, the company anticipates that as many as 18 teams will participate in the 2025 edition of this event.

Games will run on WBD’s linear networks (which include TNT and TruTV), and stream on Max.

Additionally, Publicis Sports and MGM Resorts have joined forces for this event. The MGM Grand Garden Arena will be the venue where the games take place, offering early access to promotional and sponsorship deals to clients of Publicis.

Over the past few months, TNT Sports has been actively pursuing fresh sports contracts, as uncertainty looms over its NBA agreement. The NBA recently sealed agreements with NBC Sports, Amazon, and Disney, but Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) subsequently filed a lawsuit against the league in an attempt to compete with Amazon’s offer.

The business now owns the rights to events such as the French Open, NASCAR, certain college football games, and matches involving the quirky baseball team, The Savannah Bananas. However, should the NBA no longer exist, the company’s most prominent event would become the March Madness college basketball tournament, making the Players Era Festival a fitting autumn counterpart to the traditional springtime event.

Ian Orefice, CEO of EverWonder Studio, expressed his gratitude for collaborating with three esteemed figures in the sports world – TNT Sports, Publicis Sports, and MGM Resorts International. These partnerships will significantly amplify the influence Players Era can have on college basketball players and enthusiasts, stated Orefice. TNT Sports stands unrivaled in its coverage of college basketball and premier sporting events, while Publicis is at the forefront of brand interaction with sports fanatics, leveraging innovation. MGM Resorts International brings a storied past of iconic sports moments and premium on-site experiences, creating an extraordinary blend that caters exceptionally well to college basketball and sports enthusiasts.

For over a decade, TNT Sports has been leading the expansion of top-tier college basketball exhibition events,” commented Raphael Poplock, senior vice president of acquisitions, business development, and partnerships at TNT Sports. “The popularity in this area has skyrocketed, and we’re thrilled to team up for and broadcast the inaugural Players Era Festival across our channels. This event will offer fans even more engaging college basketball action, while simultaneously creating chances for student-athletes to excel.
