Sadly, Uche Ojeh, spouse of NBC Today co-anchor Sheinelle Jones, passed away at the age of 45 following a tough fight against a severe type of brain cancer.
The news was announced on the NBC morning show Friday.
I’m deeply saddened to express my heartfelt condolences as I share the news that Uche Ojeh, my friend and beloved partner of Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a valiant struggle against glioblastoma, a particularly aggressive form of brain cancer. Our hearts go out to Sheinelle and their precious three children, for whom words may seem insufficient in expressing the depth of our sorrow. Uche was an extraordinary individual who touched us all with his kindness, strength, and love. Today, I want to take a moment to honor this remarkable man who stood by Sheinelle as her perfect life companion.
Forty-five years old was Ojeh, and he is now departed, leaving behind his partner Jones and their trio of kids. For over a decade, he had been a consultant at UAO Consulting. During the discussion on the show following the distressing announcement, Today’s co-anchor Craig Melvin disclosed that they played golf together just last autumn.
Melvin reminisced, “We frequently discussed various aspects of life. However, a recurring topic was always his children. He adored those kids above everything else in this world and was incredibly proud. He was like the dad who never missed a soccer game – he was there for all of them. He attended every concert and recital. He embodied that role.
As a gamer speaking here, I’ve been away from my usual spot on the NBC morning show since December, due to personal reasons related to a health issue within my family. I shared this news back in January, explaining my need for a leave of absence to focus on this matter.
Jones has been part of the Today show for over a decade now; she started with the weekend edition of their morning program in 2014. In 2019, she was appointed as co-host for the third hour of the show, sharing duties with Dylan Dreyer, Craig Melvin, and other talented individuals from the program and NBC News.
Back in 2007, I (Jones), met my lovely wife, Ojeh, during my time as a freshman tour guide at Northwestern University. She was a high school senior visiting the campus at that time. We got engaged right there on the university’s beautiful campus.
