Today Show’s Anchors Were Thrilled About Craig Melvin Replacing Hoda Kotb, But Couldn’t Look More Disgusted By How He Chose To Celebrate

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated countless virtual worlds and digital landscapes, I find myself deeply immersed in the real-life drama unfolding at NBC’s Today show. The news of Craig Melvin‘s promotion to co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie is akin to leveling up in a game, and I can’t help but cheer for him as he embarks on this new quest.

Hoda Kotb has been a co-host on “Today” alongside Savannah Guthrie since 2018, but starting from 2025, the TV schedule will proceed without her. Since Kotb announced her departure in September, there’s been much speculation about who would take her place. On Thursday morning’s broadcast, the identity of her successor was unveiled – it’s Craig Melvin! With his new promotion, he and his enthusiastic colleagues celebrated the news. However, it seems they have different preferences when it comes to celebratory drinks.

On Thursday morning’s news segment, it was announced that Melvin will be stepping into Hoda Kotb’s role starting on Monday, January 13, 2025, alongside Savannah Guthrie – this change will take effect after Kotb’s final day on Friday, January 10. In honor of the occasion, the NBC anchor shared a toast with the rest of the team, which resulted in a humorous group reaction photo. Take a look for yourself!

I was lucky enough to have my fellow gaming buddies – Sheinelle Jones, Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Jenna Bush Hager, and Carson Daly – join me for a celebratory photo. We were all grinning as we raised a toast with my preferred dark liquor.

In the following photo after their toast, his coworkers appeared visibly displeased with his choice of drink. Bush Hager and Guthrie deemed it “unpalatable,” even as they took a sip on his behalf, while Melvin seemed quite fond of it. One might say Craig Melvin is about to introduce a novel taste on the Today show!

In the segment, Kotb expressed her anticipation for a celebration on her last day, while Guthrie hinted at a week-long tribute. This means that the current co-anchor is only two months from embarking on a fresh chapter. Previously, she mentioned that reaching 60 made her feel it was the right time to explore new opportunities. The seasoned host has also shared her aspirations for venturing into the wellness industry, and she’s been nurturing ideas that she hopes will soon be fully developed.

Regarding “Today With Hoda & Jenna”, it has been revealed that the fourth hour will be renamed “Today With Jenna & Friends”. This revamped segment will see Jenna Bush Hager as the main host, with a different co-host joining her each time. During the announcement, Jenna playfully hinted at her newfound freedom, saying she’s “ready to mix and mingle” in this exciting new phase of the show.

Regardless of their negative responses to the bourbon, Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, and the NBC crew expressed immense enthusiasm and support for Craig Melvin regarding his new position. Guthrie revealed that the announcement within the team caused a burst of applause, and Kotb conveyed this sentiment to Melvin:

This position seems tailor-made for your skills and talents. You stand out as an exceptional fit. Your qualifications align perfectly with what’s required for this role. You seem to be the ideal candidate for it.

During the announcement, Al Roker joined in through a Zoom call and praised Melvin, saying he’s more than deserving of the position.

And so, a new chapter soon begins!

Now, Craig Melvin should take Hoda Kotb’s guidance for what she terms the “most coveted spot on TV,” and his path to success is clear. However, it seems he should also avoid bringing along any bourbon.
