TOKYO CULTUART by BEAMS Celebrates 20 Years of the Roland SP-404 Sampler

BEAMS’ CULTUART from TOKYO has collaborated with Roland to mark the 20th anniversary of the iconic SP-404 sampler.

The partnership showcases a variety of clothing items and trinkets distinguished by Roland’s distinctive colors. In this collaboration, you’ll find T-shirts displaying a Roland chest emblem and shared branding on the back, along with the SAMUEL collaboration tee featuring an illustration of the SP-404 MK II. Another piece showcases the machine on its back. The collection concludes with caps branded in black denim and gray, as well as canvas tote bags, all bearing the same label.

Roland’s initial SP-404 model debuted in 2005, followed by various updates like the SP-555, SP-404SX, SP-404A, and more recently, the SP-404 MKII. This sampler has found its place as a mainstay in hip-hop music, particularly in the lo-fi hip-hop genre, with artists like Madlib, Flying Lotus, and J Dilla frequently using it for their creations.
