As a fashion enthusiast with a penchant for the extravagant, I must admit that Tom Ford’s latest real estate acquisition has left me utterly spellbound! The man truly knows how to live la dolce vita. With a net worth of over $2 billion USD and an empire of homes spanning some of the most coveted locales in the world, it seems that this fashion titan is not just dressing the rich and famous, but living like them too!
Billionaire fashion designer Tom Ford has purchased a mansion in London‘s Chelsea neighborhood for a whopping $104 million USD (£80 million GBP), according to Bloomberg‘s sources.
This year, the house was the priciest property sold in the U.K., with the transaction concluded over the summer, as per reports. Interestingly, the previous owner had purchased this grand mansion for approximately £16 million GBP (around $20 million USD) about two decades ago.
Ford has recently expanded his real estate empire with a new property in London, joining his existing residences valued at more than $250 million USD (approximately £191 million GBP) in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Aspen, Palm Beach, and the Hamptons, as reported by MSN based on property records.
In November of 2022, the renowned fashion designer, who previously held the role of creative director at Gucci and later co-founded his own label with Domenico De Sole, former CEO of Gucci, sold his self-titled brand for a staggering $2.8 billion USD (approximately £2.1 billion GBP). This transaction significantly boosted Ford’s personal wealth, placing it over $2 billion USD (around £1.5 billion GBP).
Speculation about Ford’s exit soared post-sale completion, and with the sad demise of his partner, Richard Buckley, in 2021, there was a general sentiment that this unfortunate event might provide the designer some personal time.
For over a decade, Ford served as the creative head of his own label, but he relinquished this position last April. His swan song was the Fall 2023 collection. Now, Haider Ackermann has taken over as creative director, assuming the role in September, after a short tenure by Peter Hawkings.
