Tom Hanks Runs Again! You Won’t Believe Who’s With Him

Tom Hanks isn’t new to the world of music videos; he featured in Carly Rae Jepsen’s video for “I Really Like You” that has garnered 312 million views on YouTube. Now, he’s appearing in one from his son’s revamped country music band, Something Out West, and there’s a hint of one of his most renowned films, Forrest Gump. Chet Hanks, along with his friend and ex-roommate Drew Arthur, founded the band and signed to Big Machine Records in February this year. Their second single, “You Better Run,” is a delight for fans of both Hanks and Gump, and you can watch it below.

In this music video, they reenact iconic moments like the “box of chocolates” and the park bench setting from Forrest Gump, with Chet Hanks portraying Forrest (Gump) while his father is present nearby. The video incorporates numerous scenes where Chet runs, echoing the “Run, Forrest, Run” sequence from the movie, and ties in both the title and lyrics of the song. Initially appearing as a love ballad, “You Better Run” subtly transforms into an advisory tune, urging men to flee from dangerous women. The lyrics read:

She might appear delightful, but she’s as fiery as a shot of whiskey. By the end of the night, one glance into her eyes and you’re history. You’d better flee, like you’ve escaped from jail, like a storm is approaching, like a wild mustang or a bullet train. Here’s a warning, you’re running out of time. The clock is ticking, she’ll be coming for you, and there’s no time to dawdle, run, run, run.

In the music video, there are frequent shots of the band playing against the backdrop of a boat resembling the shrimping vessel “Jenny,” as seen in Forrest Gump. You can see it for yourself below.
