In a short span of time, Tom Holland has become widely recognized as an actor – largely due to his role as Spider-Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (available for streaming with a Disney+ subscription). While fans eagerly anticipate his return in an upcoming Marvel film, 28-year-old Holland has been candid about his struggle with sobriety during his acting break. He recently disclosed some insightful guidance he received from his lawyer during this journey, even admitting “I Would Just Go Too Far.
Tom Holland’s break from acting was undeniably needed, given the numerous films he’s starred in since assuming the role of Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. It seems this pause also gave him time to reflect on his relationship with alcohol. In an interview with Men’s Health about his sobriety (which he achieved without resorting to any programs), the actor imparted a valuable piece of wisdom from his lawyer that resonated with him. To quote him directly:
As a passionate cinephile, I’d like to share an insightful pearl of wisdom that significantly impacted my journey: “You’ll never look back on a wild night out and yearn for another drink, it’s the mornings after one drink that you’ll regret.” This advice resonated deeply with me, as my struggle was that I could handle just one drink, but then I’d inevitably push it too far.
A significant improvement: Waking up refreshed. Since quitting alcohol, Holland may have experienced this more often, a boost that’ll undoubtedly aid him in meeting early call times on upcoming movie sets. It appears that giving up alcohol was a struggle for him initially.
Tom Holland’s decision to give up alcohol at such a young age drew attention due to his clean image and lack of public scandals. However, he chose to stop drinking on his own terms, without seeking help from rehab or 12-step programs like AA. In the same interview, he openly discussed his path towards sobriety.
I’m quite determined in my actions. Once I make up my mind about something, I see it through. I’ve relied heavily on the support of loved ones – family, friends, former and current colleagues, even strangers who extended a helping hand, all of whom remained sober during our interactions.
It will be intriguing to find out if moviegoers spot any difference when Holland reappears on the big screen, now as a sober actor. Given the adoration fans have shown for his portrayal of Peter Parker across numerous Marvel films, it’s tough to envision him improving any further. However, taking up that role again could come with some physical hurdles; Holland strained his ab muscles while attempting a backflip recently.
The upcoming Marvel film set to hit cinemas is titled “Captain America: A New World Dawns“, which will premiere on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. In the meantime, take a look at the confirmed release dates for movies in 2025.
