Tom Selleck 'Can't Figure Out' Why CBS Is Ending Blue Bloods, And He Even Proposed A Plan For How They Could Keep It Around

As a devoted fan who’s followed the Reagan family’s journey through thick and thin for over a decade, I can’t help but feel Tom Selleck‘s pain as he grapples with the impending finale of “Blue Bloods”. It’s like saying goodbye to an old friend, one who’s been there through laughter and tears, triumphs and trials.

It’s no surprise that Tom Selleck is expressing disappointment over ‘Blue Bloods’ being included in the list of shows ending or getting canceled in 2024. As the series finale approaches, his feelings are evident as he continues to voice his displeasure about its premature end. In fact, he has stated that he finds it hard to comprehend why CBS decided to end the procedural, and he has even proposed a concept for how the storyline could have been extended further.

The last episode of “Blue Bloods” will broadcast on December 13, 2024, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. This will be the last Reagan family gathering, and it promises to be quite moving. Despite having finished filming several months ago, Tom Selleck continues to express his hopes that this isn’t the end of the series, as he shared with Variety.

It’s puzzling to me why they didn’t release ten episodes annually instead of starting streaming it. However, I’m not in charge. There was a strong desire for everyone to return, and I believe the cast would have provided a delightful treat for viewers. Unfortunately, I don’t decide these matters. All I can do is appreciate and honor this show, though I’m still adjusting to its end.

As a gaming enthusiast, let me rephrase it: After being questioned about rumors of a Blue Bloods spinoff, the actor portraying Frank Reagan made it clear he’s not considering a new series just yet. Instead, it seems like his main focus is finding a solution for the original police drama to carry on.

It’s logical that he wants to transfer “Blue Bloods” to a streaming service and create shorter seasons. Many shows have already done the same switch in recent times, some of which had been running for quite some time. So, this concept isn’t entirely new or far-fetched. Frankly, I find it somewhat surprising that this hasn’t already been the case.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been thrilled to witness some of my favorite TV series making moves. Criminal Minds has been resurrected on Paramount+, now known as Criminal Minds: Evolutions. Law and Order: Organized Crime has successfully transitioned from NBC to Peacock. And let’s not forget the ever-growing NCIS Universe, which is now spreading its wings across both CBS and Paramount+. It might seem unusual, but it’s not unheard of for shows to migrate platforms so they can keep going strong.

Additionally, since I don’t own a live TV service, I watch all my CBS shows via Paramount+ subscription, a habit shared by many others. Therefore, transitioning might not be a significant change for us.

It’s likely that the cast of “Blue Bloods” would also support this idea, much like the lead actor of “Magnum P.I.” expressed when he mentioned that continuing with more procedurals would have been a blessing for both the cast and viewers. In the run-up to the drama’s final episode, several actors have publicly shared their feelings about the series ending, many of whom hope it doesn’t come to an end. For instance, Abigail Baker described the cancellation as a “massive mistake.

It’s unmistakable that Selleck and his fellow actors are eager for Blue Bloods to continue, and they were prepared to make changes, including relocating the show, to secure its spot on the 2025 TV lineup. Regrettably, this didn’t come to pass, and now the series is wrapping up this week. Yet, we can keep our fingers crossed that perhaps a revival might take place in the future.

For now, though, you can tune in to say goodbye to the Reagan’s at 10 p.m. ET on CBS this Friday.
