As a devoted fan of Tom Selleck‘s illustrious career and his iconic mustache, I am thrilled to see him considering a return to the wild west with Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe. With such an impressive roster of talent already gracing our screens, the addition of Selleck would surely be the cherry on top of this already mouth-watering sundae.
As a dedicated viewer, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness as I bid farewell to one of my all-time favorite shows, CBS’ Blue Bloods. For years, it’s been a staple in my weekly viewing routine, consistently ranking among the most-watched scripted series on TV. But alas, like many other shows, its 14-season run is coming to an end this year, with its final episode set to premiere in the 2024 TV lineup.
Selleck has expressed similar dissatisfaction as others about the cancellation of the project, finding it puzzling since it hadn’t slipped from primetime yet. However, he seems to be focusing on the future and considering potential new venues for his skills. There’s a strong possibility that he might revisit the western genre, especially since Taylor Sheridan’s TV realm, notably Yellowstone’s ranch lands, is an attractive option for him.
As a devoted fan, I’d rephrase it like this: Reflecting on my chat with Parade about departing from Blue Bloods and Frank Reagan, they asked me about potential future roles, specifically if I’d consider dusting off the cowboy hat for Sheriday once more. Here’s what the Magnum P.I. alum had to say:
Instead of saying “offers” are flooding, it seems like some individuals might be considering me… A classic Western is something I always include on my list. It’s been a while since I last rode a horse; I really long for that feeling again.
Back then, when Yellowstone was newly established, this concept might have seemed thrilling. However, given the impressive roster of stars in Sheridan’s series – a list that includes Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Sylvester Stallone, Billy Bob Thornton, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Jeremy Renner, Kevin Costner, and numerous others (not to mention Tom Hanks’ cameo in 1883) – it now appears feasible.
It’s hoped that someone connected with Taylor Sheridan notices Tom Selleck’s wish to ride a horse again. Since Sheridan owns the Four Sixes ranch in Texas, which he’s used extensively for filming due to his love for horses and related activities, it seems anyone keen on getting back on a horse would be warmly received.
Selleck also acknowledged his fanbase and enduring bond with 1883’s Sam Elliott, expressing readiness to collaborate with the veteran actor from The Big Lebowski, if given a chance. Put simply, he said he would be open to working together if the opportunity arises.
Sam was great in [1883]. Sam’s always great. We go way, way back. I love him dearly. I’d love to work with Sam.
It’d be simply fantastic to witness these two iconic mustaches of Hollywood grace the screen simultaneously on the 2025 TV premiere lineup! They’ve collaborated previously, like in the 1978 miniseries The Sacketts and the 1982 film The Shadow Riders. This reunion would undoubtedly be a win-win situation for both the fans and the creative minds behind the project.
Looking forward to an imminent announcement enriched by Sheridan, the final episode of the hit series “Blue Bloods” is all set to broadcast on CBS this coming Friday, December 13, at 10:00 p.m. ET. For those who miss the live airing, you can stream it the following day with a subscription to Paramount+.
