As a fellow music enthusiast and fan of Black Sabbath, I couldn’t help but feel the loss when I heard about the passing of Ozzy Osbourne, the dark prince himself, at the age of 76. Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, my bandmates in this legendary group, paid tribute to him yesterday, expressing their heartfelt condolences and reminiscing on the incredible journey we shared together.
I’m absolutely shocked! My dearest friend, Ozzy, has sadly passed away just a few weeks after our concert at Villa Park,” Iommi expressed on X on Tuesday. “The devastating news is almost too much to bear; words can hardly express my grief. There will never be another quite like him. Geezer, Bill and I have lost our brother. My sympathies go out to Sharon and the entire Osbourne family. May you rest in peace, Oz.
In a heartfelt post of my own on Instagram, I bid farewell to a cherished friend: “Farewell, old pal – thank you for the countless years filled with laughter and joy. Who would have thought that we’d be four lads from Aston? It was truly gratifying that we had one final reunion in our beloved hometown. I hold you close in my heart.
In the late ’60s, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, along with Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward, established the iconic band Black Sabbath. Together, they significantly shaped the genre of heavy metal by serving as a key catalyst in its evolution. They were collectively inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
Black Sabbath also paid a short tribute online, with the message “Ozzy Forever” accompanied by an image of Ozzy Osbourne seated on his throne.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel the profound sorrow that grips the music industry upon the passing of Ozzy Osbourne. Today, a wave of tributes has washed over social media, penned by legends like Elton John, Duran Duran, Jack White, and Billy Idol, among others, who have all paid their respects to this titan of music.
John described him as a beloved friend and a groundbreaking figure, earning a spot among the legendary rock musicians – truly iconic.
Oh man, I’m utterly shocked! Just weeks after sharing an unforgettable moment at Villa Park with my dearest friend, Ozzy, he’s gone. The news is almost too much to bear – words feel inadequate. There will never be another like him. Geezer, Bill, and I have lost our brother, our partner in music. My thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
