Tony Todd’s Haunting Final Role in ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Trailer: A Bittersweet Farewell!

Each time I come across a new ad for the movie “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” I experience a mix of excitement and melancholy. Although its 2025 release date marks the comeback of a popular horror series, it also serves as one of the last roles for the iconic actor Tony Todd, who passed away in 2024. The sneak peek at this sixth installment in New Line’s Rube Goldberg-style death series is undeniably bittersweet, as the reappearance of Todd’s character William Bludworth carries a more poignant significance.

Tony Todd’s Final Destination Bloodlines Return Is An Appropriate Bookend

In the series of movies known as “Final Destination,” Tony Todd has consistently been a recurring character. Although he was not present in “The Final Destination” and only provided a voiceover in “Final Destination 3,” the iconic William Bludworth, portrayed by Todd, remains one of the defining elements of the franchise.

In my opinion, Tony Todd’s most memorable performance might not only be his role in Clive Barker’s “Candyman,” but also that of the ominous funeral director from the 2000’s horror classic, “Final Destination.” This film is often hailed as one of the greatest horror movies ever made. The editor responsible for the trailer of “Bloodlines” seems to have grasped this, and for a full appreciation of what I mean, it would be beneficial to revisit the trailer for “Final Destination” for comparison purposes.

In that first movie, William Bludworth was downright chilling compared to the version we catch a glimpse of in the trailer for Final Destination Bloodlines. As for the thriller where Devon Sawa takes center stage, Tony Todd signs us off with an eerie “I’ll see ya soon.” Fast forward to this fresh clip, and his parting shot is a more subdued yet unsettling “Good luck.

It’s not unexpected that Tony Todd’s last line in this trailer might be his final dialogue, and I certainly can’t complain about it. Given that the actor from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Rock, and a highly underrated Night of the Living Dead remake gets to bid farewell to his character with one dignified performance is uplifting. Moreover, if rumors are true about what this sixth Final Destination aims to achieve, it could lead to a fitting closure for Death’s most respected companion.

William Bludworth’s Backstory Is On The Table For Final Destination: Bloodlines

In Final Destination: Bloodlines, I initially believed that William Bludworth was only going to make a brief appearance to connect the plot threads, but it seems my assumptions might be off base.

According to a 2023 report from Bloody-Disgusting, the creative team behind Final Destination 6 has now been fully formed. This means we can expect a scene showing William Bludworth’s past and his childhood link with Death.

Similar to numerous film enthusiasts, I find it regrettable that Tony Todd wasn’t included in the 2025 Oscars In Memoriam segment. Although he is widely recognized for his work in horror films, it’s important to note that this versatile actor, hailing from Washington D.C., has demonstrated a broad acting range, not just within genre productions, but also in projects beyond them.

Concurrently, the film “Final Destination” provided an excellent platform for Todd to exhibit his skills. A minor role, initially leveraging a horror master’s strong presence, has since evolved into such a pivotal aspect of the “Final Destination” franchise that it is now a significant draw for viewers.

What really excites me about the May 16 release of Final Destination: Bloodlines is the knowledge that it’s a special moment, perhaps even more significant than any awards ceremony. This might be our last chance to watch Tony Todd on the big screen, but at least we get to see him soon again.
