Michael Ward, a popular British actor recognized for his roles in “Top Boy” and most recently, Ari Aster’s movie “Eddington,” which debuted at Cannes, is facing charges of sexual assault.
On Friday, it was confirmed by London’s Metropolitan Police that a 27-year-old actor from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire is facing charges for two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault. These allegations stem from one individual, the police stated, and they claim that these incidents occurred in January 2023.
Ward will appear at Thames Magistrates Court in London on Thursday, Aug. 28.

Catherine Baccas, acting as deputy chief prosecutor for CPS London South, confirmed: “After thoroughly examining the case files, the Crown Prosecution Service has given permission to the Metropolitan Police to accuse Michael Ward, aged 27, of committing two rapes, two instances of penetrative assault, and one count of sexual misconduct against a woman in January 2023.
She emphasized, “Let me stress that the ongoing case against the accused is still active, and he is entitled to a just trial. It’s crucial to avoid any form of online reporting, comments, or dissemination of information that might potentially influence this case in any way.
The young, Jamaican-born actor is most recognized for his portrayal of Jamie on Netflix’s BAFTA-winning series, “Top Boy.” In 2020, he received the British Academy’s emerging talent award. In 2022, he appeared in Sam Mendes’ drama “Empire of Light,” earning a nomination for best supporting actor at the BAFTAs.
This year, Ward made his appearance on the red carpet at Cannes alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler for the debut of Aster’s newest neo-Western dark comedy film titled Eddington. In this movie, Ward portrayed the character of police officer Michael.
