Trans Boxing Doc ‘Unfightable’ Lands at Fuse Media (Exclusive)

As a passionate advocate for representation and equality, I am thrilled to witness the release of “Unfightable,” a powerful documentary that sheds light on the inspiring journey of Alana McLaughlin. Her story resonates deeply with me, as it underscores the indomitable spirit of those who dare to challenge societal norms and fight for their identity.

Fuse Media seeks a powerful dual strategy for its recently purchased transgender boxing documentary titled “Unfightable“. The plan includes a restricted cinema release in September, followed by broadcast on ViX and Fuse towards the end of the year.

The movie directed by and produced by Emmy-winning talent Marc J. Perez (known for “Severe Clear” and “Anytown USA”) and La Jaula Studios tells the story of Alana McLaughlin, a U.S. Army Special Forces sergeant and transgender athlete, as she battles to assert control over her own life and her personal story while competing as a professional mixed martial arts fighter.

Fuse Media, a company owned by someone of Latino origin who recently obtained the rights to the film “Unfightable“, announced its newest acquisition and first theatrical release. This announcement comes during a dispute about gender testing in boxing at the Paris Summer Olympics, where Imane Khelif from Algeria and Lin Yu-ting from Taiwan are participating in the women’s competition, causing controversy.

“According to Miguel Roggero, chairman and CEO of Fuse Media, Alana McLaughlin’s tale mirrors the genuine purpose behind Fuse Media: championing diversity, acceptance, and affirming everyone’s self-understanding, especially their unique identities.”

In 2021, I found myself captivated by McLaughlin’s journey as she prepared for her professional MMA fight debut, all while bravely facing social prejudice and inequality as a transgender athlete.

“Roggero expressed his pride in honoring the transgender community by broadcasting this significant documentary. As we expand the range of narratives we present across various mediums such as TV, streaming services, digital ad-supported platforms, and now theaters, this is just one more step in our ongoing commitment.”

The play titled “Unfightable” will be staged for a week starting from September 13th at the Village East Theater in New York, and then it will be performed for another week at Laemmle Noho 7 in Los Angeles.
