Titled as an “unspoken account of their beginnings,” penned by Eric Pearson, Andrew Barrer, and Gabriel Ferrari, Transformers One revolves around the chronicles of the Transformers and the evolution of two comrades-in-arms, Orion Pax and D-16, who transition into bitter adversaries as Optimus Prime and Megatron. Their enmity, which unfolds on the planet Cybertron, shapes events that forever alter the destiny of their world. (If you’ve driven down Sunset Boulevard lately, you might have spotted the billboard with the catchy slogan, “Comrades Before Rivals.”)

Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax
As a long-time enthusiast of the Transformers universe, I step into the shoes of Orion Pax, destined to become Optimus Prime one day. The narrative unfolds with Orion Pax and D-16 starting as lowly worker bots in Cybertron’s Energon mines beneath Iacon City. Our journey together uncovers an age-old enigma that eventually drives us apart. Much like my gaming buddies, I spent countless hours playing with Transformers toys and tuning into the animated series as a kid. My admiration for the franchise grew even stronger when I started watching the movies. To be part of this world is already an honor; to voice Optimus Prime takes it to another stratum entirely.
Brian Tyree Henry as D-16
As a devoted Transformers enthusiast, I step into the shoes of D-16, the future Megatron, in this intriguing role. In the beginning, D-16 is a diligent, sharp, and rule-abiding character who despises injustice. He yearns for something greater, but he’s not willing to overstep any boundaries. However, when he uncovers the truth that everything he thought he knew was merely an illusion, this revelation sets him on a transformative journey. This is the essence of my character as depicted in the film’s production notes.
Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1
In a new role, the seasoned star portrays a mining manager, initially resistant to the Cybertron ascent but eventually inspiring other robots to realize their potential during conflict and excitement. The selection of Scarlett, known for her remarkable acting abilities and distinctive voice, proved incredibly impactful according to Zev Foreman, head of Hasbro’s film division, as stated in the production notes.
Keegan-Michael Key as B-127
In this new version of the story, the seasoned comedy actor plays B-127, who later transforms into Bumblebee. Unlike other parts of the tale where Bumblebee is mostly quiet, this one features a younger, chatty version – and it’s laugh-out-loud funny! As Cooley put it, “We chose to make him extremely talkative. In truth, he never stops talking.” The role reminded us instantly of Keegan, who can deliver any line with humor. That’s just a fact.
Steve Buscemi as Decepticon Starscream
The esteemed character actor lends his voice to Decepticon Starscream, the second-in-command of the malevolent alien robot group known as the Decepticons, who aim to dominate Cybertron and beyond. Previously, Cooley affirmed that Steve was the top pick for this role, stating he was ideal. Cooley has long admired his work, and it was a delight for him to explain what he desired and have Steve respond with enthusiasm: “Sounds good, let’s do it.” Then, Steve would leap into the recording booth and begin embodying Starscream’s iconic screams. This portrayal has been labeled as “extraordinary” by some.
Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion
As an old-timer among Transformers, I’m often called the elder statesman or mentor. Back in the day, I was a key player in building Cybertron into a powerful independent force across the galaxies. Nowadays, I share my wisdom with Optimus Prime and Elita-1, acting as their guide. Oh, and there were some rumors about me dying alongside the Primes, but I’m still here, kicking!
Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime
In a new role, the actor famous for his work on “Mad Men” and who was recently nominated for an Emmy for his performance in “Fargo,” will portray Sentinel Prime, the head of Iacon City. According to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Jon’s portrayal of Sentinel Prime exceeded expectations: “He is a commanding figure. He embodies the ideal leader for a society such as this one. Yet, his character has a hidden side, which is quite surprising.
