‘Traumnovelle’ to Open Oldenburg Film Festival

As a connoisseur of both literature and cinema, hailing from the land where the rivers Rhine and Ruhr meet to form a cultural melting pot, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming premiere of “Traumnovelle” at this year’s Oldenburg Film Festival! The original work by Arthur Schnitzler is a classic that has captivated minds for generations, and its adaptation by Florian Frerichs promises to be a fascinating exploration of human desires and fantasies.

As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for psychological thrillers and adaptations, I am particularly excited about this year’s Oldenburg Film Festival opening with “Traumnovelle,” an adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s renowned erotic short story. Having been captivated by Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut” when it was first released, I can only imagine the intrigue and suspense that this new version will bring. The fact that it serves as a precursor to such a masterpiece makes it even more enticing. I am eagerly awaiting its premiere on September 11th and cannot wait to immerse myself in this tantalizing tale of love, desire, and the human psyche.

As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: “I find myself immersed in an intriguing tale directed by Florian Frerichs, known for ‘The Last Supper.’ This time, it’s about Nikolai Kinski and Laurine Price, a seemingly respectable upper-middle-class duo who get entangled in the enigmatic realm of erotic escapades. Detlev Buck, Bruno Eyron, and Nora Islei join them in this captivating journey, with cameos from Sharon Brauner and Sharon Kovacs. The production giants behind this are Warnuts Entertainment and Studio Babelsberg.”

Back in 1926, Schnitzler’s “Traumnovelle” was first published, but it wasn’t until Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 feature film that this story truly shone. Starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, this production took an astonishing 400 days to complete – a record-breaking feat. Sadly, shortly after wrapping up the movie, and mere six days after showing us his cut, Kubrick himself passed away. As a gamer, I can only imagine the unfinished masterpiece he left behind.

On September 11, Frerichs and his team are set to make their debut at the world premiere of “Traumnovelle” in Oldenburg. This movie is expected to grace German cinemas as early as 2025, thanks to Apollo Film.

As a lifelong cinephile and filmmaker, I have always been drawn to the unique and the unconventional when it comes to cinema. That’s why I am particularly excited about the upcoming Oldenburg Film Festival, which is renowned for showcasing the most provocative and offbeat indie films out there. Having attended several times in the past, I can attest to its ability to push boundaries and challenge conventional filmmaking norms. This year marks the 31st edition of the festival, running from September 11th to 19th, and I am eagerly awaiting the opportunity to immerse myself in a week’s worth of thought-provoking cinema. Whether you are a fellow cinephile or simply someone who appreciates the art of filmmaking, I highly recommend checking out the Oldenburg Film Festival – it is an experience unlike any other!
