The highly anticipated sequel to one of the most beloved films, “Troll,” has just had a thunderous re-release. Although it’s already known that the monster movie sequel will debut on a streaming platform this year, what’s new is that, according to What’s on Netflix, “Troll 2” is currently in post-production and set for release in the fall of 2025. When asked about upcoming projects from production company Motion Blur (the team behind the original), producer Espen Horn responded…
Currently, we’re working on the post-production phase of Troll 2, scheduled for release in autumn 2025 (check out an interview with our team from the original Troll). In addition to that, we have a pipeline of approximately 10-15 upcoming projects. These range from action thrillers and historical dramas to our inaugural Danish film – an action thriller directed by Mehdi Avaz. Moreover, we’re actively seeking further collaborations with Netflix, whether it be for theatrical releases or original streaming content.
We’ve got some fantastic news for fans of the Troll series! Not only have we learned approximately when “Troll 2” will premiere on the platform, but it’s been confirmed that Motion Blur is currently developing additional movies for Netflix. This announcement is certainly thrilling if you’re a Troll enthusiast!
Although specific plot details for “Troll 2” are still being kept secret, we do know that director Roar Uthaug and writer Espen Aukan will be reprising their roles in the sequel. The monster movie is set to star Sara Khorami, Jon Ketil Johnsen, Gard B. Eidsvold, Kim S. Falck-Jorgensen, Aksel Almaas, and Trond Magnum.
Intriguingly, fellow producer Kristian Strand Sinkerud has hinted that “Troll 2” might just be the start of something bigger…
In our role as filmmakers, we strive to create content that has a lasting impact beyond just one movie. While we certainly hope to produce a sequel or even two, this ultimately relies on the reception of ‘Troll’ from our audience.
‘Troll’ Caused a Serious Divide Between Critics & Audiences
Debuting on Netflix in December 2022, the initial installment of “Troll” is helmed by Roar Uthaug, a director recognized for his work on the 2018 reboot of “Tomb Raider” starring Alicia Vikander. Other projects under his belt include “The Wave”, an action drama, “Escape”, an adventure movie, and “Cold Prey”, a horror production. The cast includes prominent Norwegian actress Ine Marie Wilmann along with Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, Kim Falck, Gard B. Eidsvold, Pål Richard Lunderby, Eric Vorenholt, Pål Anders Nordvi, Veronica Sinclair, and Hugo Mikal Skår.
The film “Troll” received numerous praises when it debuted, boasting a high rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet, it sparked controversy among viewers, earning a 50% score on the Popcornmeter. Critics’ consensus goes: “Although ‘Troll’ doesn’t revolutionize the monster movie genre, its captivating mythology and exhilarating action make it a must-watch.” For more information about Troll, you can read its official synopsis provided below.
