Tron 3 Footage Released at D23 and Teases Nine Inch Nails Score

As a longtime admirer of the mesmerizing world of Tron and its captivating storylines, I am absolutely thrilled to witness the latest installment, Tron: Ares, unfold before our eyes. The franchise has always been a testament to the boundless possibilities of technology, innovation, and imagination, and it’s heartening to see that this tradition will continue with the return of Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, the original video game hero who first transported us into the digital world known as The Grid.

At D23, we find ourselves back in The Grid once more, courtesy of the freshly aired clips from ‘Tron: Ares’. Actors Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Jeff Bridges, and Evan Peters graced the stage to present these clips. According to Deadline, the footage showcases an exciting and action-packed sequence.

“In the city streets, the swift light cycles of Tron-like vehicles streak past, creating slim laser trails and splitting automobiles in two. Jared Leto portrays a character resembling Tron, dressed in red, while Greta Lee plays a talented programmer whose work attracts the attention of Ares. In the trailer’s voiceover, Leto muses, “I came here seeking something…something significant.” Scenes show him riding a light cycle alongside Lee’s character. The hacker and original video game character Kevin Flynn, portrayed by Bridges, makes an ethereal appearance at the end, dressed in white robes.”

Hailing from Walt Disney Pictures, the upcoming sci-fi film titled “Tron: Ares” is a new chapter in the renowned franchise that originated in 1982 and was later expanded with “Tron: Legacy“, released in 2010. Directed by Joachim Rønning, and written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, here’s a sneak peek at the official synopsis for “Tron: Ares“.

“In the story of Tron, we meet Ares, an advanced digital entity dispatched from the digital realm to our physical world on a perilous task. This marks humanity’s initial interaction with artificial intelligence entities.”

In the upcoming film “Tron: Ares”, the lead role of Ares will be played by Academy Award winner Jared Leto, who you might recognize from “Morbius”. The remaining cast includes Greta Lee (“Past Lives”), Evan Peters (“X-Men: Apocalypse”), Hasan Minhaj (“The Daily Show”), Jodie Turner-Smith (“Queen & Slim”), Arturo Castro (“Broad City”), Gillian Anderson (known for “The X-Files” and “The Crown”), and Sarah Desjardins (“Yellowjackets”).

In addition to this impressive lineup of actors, it was recently announced that Jeff Bridges, an Academy Award winner, will rejoin the cast for Tron 3. Bridges originally starred in the initial Tron film from 1982, where he played a video game developer who gets sucked into a digital world called The Grid. Bridges portrayed both Flynn and Clu characters in the 2010 sequel, Tron: Legacy. In this movie, his son also ends up in The Grid and discovers that his father, who was thought to be lost for decades, has been trapped there.

Work on a new installment of the Tron series started over twenty years ago, specifically in 2010. Although it has taken some time, Tron 3 is finally ready to be released. Producer Justin Springer believes that now is an ideal moment for viewers to return to The Grid once again.

As a lifelong fan of Tron, I can confidently say that the concepts and themes we’ve seen unfold in the original film are more relevant than ever before in today’s digital age. With the rapid advancements in technology and the increasing interconnectedness of our world, it seems like the perfect time to revisit this classic story.

Tron: Ares
is scheduled to be released theatrically on October 10, 2025.
